The next morning there's a knock at the door. There they are. A weak, apologetic smile on the face you've waited so long to see. Bandaged, worn, but there's no mistaking those eyes, that chin, that nose, that hair. They stay on the porch one hand holding a cane to keep them steady.... the other a bouquet of twelve red roses, "You didn't think I would forget did you?"
@bunnybunny52375 жыл бұрын
@@LaDyLuCk2900 "Never." You reply, a smile adorning your features. Stepping aside, you let him in. "Welcome home, love." On the dining room table, a pile of love letters sat. Accompanying it was a vase of dead flowers, and a half-finished teacup. Nearly every house on the block was playing the same song. "You kept it the way it was when I left?" He asks, looking to his favorite chair in the living room. It was left untouched by time, since he had left. "How could I, love?" You ask, opening to windows to let the lovely music in, which you start to sing along to, in French.

“You may kiss the bride!” The handsome solider embraced his newly wed wife and he had never been the most happy in his life. “I love you.” She whispered, faint enough so that only he could hear. “I love you.” He said with all of his love, and his heart full. ... “You know I’ll miss you.” She said, a single tear dropping from her red stained cheeks. “You’ll see me soon darlin. We will meet again, and when I see you I will pick you up give you a little spin and give you a kiss. I love you.” He said as he left for the train. ... As she sat sobbing on the floor of her neat little kitchen, she couldn’t retain the information that her husband, the one she loved the most in the world, was now dead. She was pregnant at the time of their last goodbyes, but they had no idea. She had, had her sweet little girl, but she had never and would never meet her father. ... She had met another man whom she loved, but she had always felt that a part of her was empty. Her little girl grew up into a successful woman and she had two children. The woman, now a grandmother was older now, growing weaker, knowing that the time for her to pass was coming. She did indeed feel complete and she had felt like she “succeeded” at life. She was ready. ... As she exhaled her last breath. She opened her eyes and saw “her” soldier that never came home. “Hi darlin.” He said with teary eyes. She ran to him with open arms and he picked her up, spun her around and gave her a kiss just like he promised in the life that seemed like forever ago.

June, 1945. You stand alone, the early summers twilight blowing across the platform. The first of the returning troop trains had come in earlier. You stood all day, in vigil, as thousands of couples and families were reunited after six long years of war. You hadn’t heard from him since before the surrender. Still, always hoping he’d be alive and returning home on the overcrowded trains that pulled into London. It is dark now. Crickets chirp. This song, from somewhere on the PA system, lulls out as the night men begin to sweep up debris and litter from the joyous reunions that had happened around you. Footsteps from behind you suddenly come into earshot. You turn, astonished. He smiles that smile he had the night you married him. “Hello, love. Its been a while.”

All her friends got their fellas back. She tried to be happy for them, she really did. And on some level, she was. But as she sat there on the flimsy fold-up chair-just one along the row along the wall-she could only lean back and tip her head. ‘Never mind my hair,’ she thought. ‘What’s the point of victory rolls if I don’t feel at all like a winner?’ Minutes pass like days, her breathing steadier than the sway of everyone’s slow dancing. She wished she hadn’t been so bold. “When you get back,” she recalls having said, without shaking, “I’ll wear your ring.” She should have worn it then. At least then they might have sent her the telegram; at least she’d have known. At least then- “Miss me, darlin’?”

You look around, pacing all over. Hours pass. You see beautiful, pure, children greet their beloved fathers with glee. Joyful wives kiss their husbands on the cheek. The more time that passes, the more this sight becomes replayed. *You see it as a beacon of hope.* Hope that he's still alive. Even if it means he's not with you, he still is alive and well. _There still is a chance,right?_ The war was harsh;fumbling with terror and fear. It was about time you see the love of your life. But at the back of your mind, you wonder: *_"When will that time be?"_* You feel your stomach aching.Your throat swell up. Your eyes water. *_"Hold it together,"_* you tell yourself *_"You'll ruin the moment for other families."_* You look around. Not a single person were sulking. Not a single person were bursting out into an array full of sad tears, mourning their loss. _Nobody but,_ *Y* *O* *U* He's in a happier place, he's well, he's missing you, and although you might not like it, he will be waiting. Waiting to share that moment, that *dance* ,that you have dreamt upon of. You dry your eyes and watch from afar, all the happy wives and children sharing a dance with each other. You smile, *_"The war is over."_*

this actually makes me emotional. my boyfriend is almost home after navy bootcamp and school, but with all the tensions with Iran and the threat of an all out war. As much as I love the WW2 era, I don't want to become another teenager waiting for their lover to return in their uniform or a letter that they sunk and were lost at sea.

"Dear Marie, This is Pierre. I am writing you this letter from the trenches in Verdun......Everything's the same....same artirelly shells, same food, same corpses, same gunfire....the only thing holding me together is thinking of you. I've been thinking of you non-stop. I am fighting for our country, our families, for us. They say the war is almost over. I really hope its true . I can't stop thinking of you.....the thought of me never seeing you again makes me shiver and cry. I still have that photo of you you gave me before I was drafted. I'll be back.... for you, for our unborn son.....for our life together. I have hope that this will be over soon....I still vividly remember everything....Madame Debois's warm pies, old Jean-Marc's yelling, young Marc playing football in the street, and your warm kiss that lights up my very soul. Marie, not a day goes by that I don't think of you. I promise you that I'll be back, and I'll never stop loving you. Love, Pierre."

You find yourself at the train station. The last train is pulling up and soldiers are filing out to meet family. Cheers, one by one. Cries of love and self-victory surround you. You feel your heart shatter as the train departs. Your eyes well up and you stare at the ground. You find yourself isolated from the warmth of love that's supposedly infectious. Whilst in this state of pity, you hear footsteps behind you, then a tap on the shoulder. You refuse it to be real until a hand picks your head up by the chin. "What's a lovely person like you doing sad on this day?" A warm and familiar voice speaks as your eyes meet. Your eyes continue to leak, not from sadness but from happiness. Your arms wrap around your long lost lover. For once, you feel whole. You feel complete. "Welcome home."

Bruh this just makes me think that my lover died in the war. And I’m slowly losing my mind because we’ve been together since we were in highschool and I can’t think of moving on with him. I’m just sitting in our house, water in the sink running, smoke coming from the kitchen, and I’m having a cigarette and thinking of throwing the hair dryer in the bathtub with me. The bills haven’t been paid, the food in the refrigerator has gone rotten, and I’ve barely bathed myself or eaten. As I’m laying in the tub for the first time in weeks this song starts up on the radio from the other room, this is it. Our wedding song. And I begin the cry, silently. I remember him, his tender lips on my cheek. His comforting embrace, a smile on his face. The joy of his laughter. I miss him, I miss it all. I look to the sink and stare at the hairdryer. Finally, I pick up the hairdryer and drop it in the water. Thinking that if this world doesn’t have him in it I don’t want to be in this world.

English Translation : Eyes that has mines lowers A laugh lost on his mouth Here is the unretouched portrait Of the man who I belong to When he takes me in his arms He talks to me low I see life in pink He tell me love words Words from everyday And it makes me feel something It went into my heart A piece of happiness To which I know the cause It's him for me, me for him in life He told me so, he swore it for life And as soon as I see him Then I feel in me My heart beating Endless love nights A big happiness taking space Problems, sorrows fading Happy, happy to death When he takes me in his arms He talks to me low I see life in pink He tell me love words Words from everyday And it makes me feel something It went into my heart A piece of happiness To which I know the cause It's you for me, me for you in life He told me so, he swore it for life And as soon as I see you I feel in me My heart beating

I closed my eyes and the strongest image came to mind Here goes nothing -- You are fluffing the pillows when you hear a knock at the door. You go to open it, as your daughter , rosianne runs down the stairs with Your son Thomas. You open the door to see your husband grinning at you. “You came home early!” You say with a gasp, you trace your finger over the new scar above his eyebrow, saying quietly “I’m so glad you’re home.” The children hug him and entertain him with stories and drawings. That night, you are all invited to a gathering at your parents house to welcome your husband and your brother home from the war. While everyone is chatting, he pulls you away into the laundry room and you dance to this song. You hold him close and feel his heart in his chest. For the first time in months, you feel calm.

Then suddenly, you saw him, your husband that promised you that he will come back but he only came back with his body, he came back without a beating heart. And you are now struggling to breathe but then you saw him smiling at you and he stretched out his hand and helped you get up then you feel light and free, like you're young again then you saw your old body, laying in bed then you and your husband danced inside the house that both of you once filled with love and made it a home I know it's too long and no one will see this but, whatever...

It has been five months since the war had ended. After years of bloodshed, heartache, pain, torment, it was all over. She takes off her slippers and slips on her silk nightgown that dances with the wind coming in from the open window. Her dainty, tiny fingers slip a gray lock of hair behind her ear as she takes a seat on her quilt that lays on the king sized bed. It is silent with only the cicada’s concerts to fill the emptiness. Her eyelids shut gently as she choked back the feeling of crying. It weighed there, her sadness did, right in between her throat and chest. It felt like a 500 lb weight was dangerously attached to a thin chain and was about to drop at any second. She couldn’t bring herself to cry, however, it was at some point that she had to come to terms with her grief. Her son wasn’t going to come home any time soon. For that, was the truest love one could ever feel.

POV: your feet get anxious, you rock back and forth as you wait for the train to get in the station. Around you, wives and mothers and girlfriends also wait, all quiet, no one knows who will get down from the damned train. In the back, a band with a lead singer in a black dress starts playing, to keep the people entertained and hopeful. The train approaches and your heart beats faster, as the soldiers wave out the windows. You look frantically, but your love is nowhere to be seen. Your heart falters a little. They start coming out, suddenly you’re surrounded by people and can’t see anything or anyone. As the last chorus starts, you hear your name clearly. You turn around, and there he is, in uniform, calling you. He smiles, and you run into his arms, wrapping your arms around his neck as you yank the cap off his head. He is thinner and he smells like war, but he is home and that’s enough.

You were so lost in the song and memories of your soldier, you did not hear the front door open. I wait. Just in case there’s another train. I know there isn’t another, but the thought of you not being with me is too much to handle. I sit down on a bench as this song plays over the loud speakers. It fills every nook and cranny in the station. I remember the days before you left. We waltzed to this song in the kitchen as the chicken roasted in the oven and you held me close and I felt safe because I didn’t think you’d be gone. Watching movies and learning about old war times always made me feel so familiar, im just so comfortable with that era it feels like I've been there and expierenced it for myself. ‘So Henry, tell us about your wife.’ You get the most beautiful flashbacks. of when you danced in the living room while your parents were asleep. The music was played with the sound down because you didn’t want your parents to wake up. You remember the picknicks on a beautiful field with flowers, and you and her eating strawberries. You remember kissing her softly on the cheek. You remember holding her tight and her saying the sweetest things to you. You remember letting her go at the train station. The tears, the words. How painful full the letting go was, you didn’t expect to be gone for so long. And to be in so much danger now. ‘Don’t you forget about me Henry haha, I love you.’ You wake up and answer: ‘She’s wonderful.’

"I'm sorry." One of your husband's bestest friends says, a tear falling from his eye. You fall to the ground, your heart gets heavy, you bite your lip, your eyes go wide, you hug your knees close to your chest, and every memory you had with your husband comes rushing back in seconds. _He kisses your forehead as he grabs his back pack, and tells you.._ _"Make sure that you make my favorite pie when I come back." With his warm smile, the same smile you saw when you were 8 and met him._ You look at the floor and smell the pumpkin pie you made from the kitchen. Rivers of tears fall from your eyes, and you scream.. "NO!"

Imagine this please You and the kids have been preparing for months for his return, so much has changed. The kids are all grown up now, you've all moved houses, the family dog has crossed the rainbow bridge, his parent have gotten old so quickly and his father may not make it much longer. A figure in the distance approaches, it's him! Your soul mate, the man of your dreams and the father of your children. You jump up and call the kids, sprinting with all the power in your weak body to him and take him into your arms... But he doesn't do the same. I feeling of absolutely terror and sadness dawns on you as you pull away and look into the eyes that once sparkled with joy and life, they're dull and lifeless now. There's no emotion. You fall to the ground with tears streaming down your face, after everything you've done and held yourself through... It was all meaningless and worthless.

Isn't it amazing how music like this can somehow, evoke memories we never made, make us experience things we never really felt and yet it all feels so real?

POV: You never heard what happened to your school sweetheart after he was drafted. It has been many decades since the war has ended. You stand in front of your window, peering out at all the sweet, young couples. You never married, to the broken hearts of your parents. You swore you'd never love another man before he left, and you never broke your promises. You lay in bed one night, and close your eyes as usual. When you open them in the morning, you see him standing beside you, handsome as before, holding your hand and smiling softly. "I'm home," he says.

War is over. You're just stand there waiting for him to come back as he promised. The time passed as you watch everyone going off with their love once only left you. You still continue to wait until night time for him until you fall asleep on the bench. After that felt like years, You felt someone was tapping your shoulder, you open your eyes to see him. He is giving you the same smile as he left before the war, giving you an apology look. From behind his back comes to a view of the most beautiful red roses you've ever seen. "Sorry to make you wait this long love. Something held me back for awhile, I got these rose for you I hope you're not angry at me." You started to sob. He panicked and asked you what's wrong. Never in his relationship with you he seen you cry. "I'm just happy you're here."

This song, along with many other from the 40s make me so nostalgic and sad, somewhere deep in my chest/stomach. And I feel like I go in sort of a daze where time stands still. It all feels so familiar but far away.

The war is over, u and your lover are in the streets of Paris at nights, lights only from lamppost. At a certain point this song start to come out from the window of a house, its your song, so you start dancing because there’s no one who is disturbing you. In the silence of those streets u finally arrive at the Eiffel Tower, the place where u first met him, so all your memories come back and tears start falling down. This is the type of nostalgia this song gives me.
