Thank you to our alpha patrons Cora and Ford Prefect for requesting this fantastic album... these three might be my favorites so far! The album that just keeps giving. Sad to wrap it up next week! This has been a great listen so far. Tull is the best.

Tull really is the best. I like the message in Nothing Is Easy, "So if you're alone and you're down to the bone, just give us a play. - You'll smile in a while and discover that I'll get you happy my way.". lol Just put on a Tull album; you'll be fine. .🙂

The Yes Album, Fragile, and Close to the Edge give them a run. Those were the days when an album was a single unit of work. I love Lee's channel but I'm still put off by the idea of reacting to a song without the context of the album. It's like picking a chapter from the middle of a book.

Look into the Sun is such a great psychedelic rock gem! Haven’t heard it in ages, so this was a pleasant reminder of what a good song that is. First time I’ve really concentrated on the lyrics. They bring quite a positive message which I hadn’t picked up on before.
@stuBdoc
@stuBdoc 5 ай бұрын
I don't find the lyrics to be positive, but rather he's talking about a relationship that could have been wonderful but the woman didn't want it, and he's saying that she will regret it. They are very meaningful lyrics, but kind of sad. One of the most beautiful and poignant songs ever written, IMHO.

Great album and 3 more classic songs from it! This album never gets cited by the critics but for me, it is one of their best. Seeing some of it live back in the 70s still freaks me out. Martin Barre is criminally underrated. He was so important to their signature sound right after Ian's flute. More greatness to come, enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎹🎷🎻🎶🔥

Before this album I thought Tull was just a Cream knock off with a one-legged flute player. But as you said this was the Tull-to-be. And then they spaced it all away, getting lost in art rock. Their journey, not mine. They had this Olde English lyricism and yet they were hippies and Ian seemed to speak directly to us like a wise older brother (although Look Into The Sun was bad advice for acid heads). I saw them twice around this time. Not just a rock concert, it was The Greatest Show on Earth

I still have this wonderful album on vinyl, though I play the repress now, fewer scratches. Jethro Tull, in the early days would jam so that tunes like "Back to the Family" would last ages live, great times. I see "Look Into The Sun" caught you, "Nothing is Easy" is a great track.

This is one of the most underrated albums of that period in the late 60s-early 70s. Album full of incredible songs. This Was, Stand Up, Benefit and Aqualung, that four album run is my favorite era of Tull. I do love stuff that came later, some also amazing songs and some of my favorite Tull songs (Heavy Horses, Minstrel in the Gallery etc.) but this early Tull era, idk what it is, excellent mixture of raw blues energy, hard rock elements, folk creeping in, even some jazz in it as well.

We Used to Know is my favourite off this album, closely followed by Back to the Family. I love Ian's off-handed delivery. In particular, "Sister's by the mirror; thinks her hair looks funny". Classic Tull lyric. And the song's got a great jammy outro with the fluttering flute, wah-wah guitar and walking bassline ending in a cacophony of sound. Sooo good.

My big brother got ''Stand Up'' when it came out. I was in the 4th grade and my brother made me sit down and listen to it with him. At first i was mad , then the music made me settle down real fast. I was like '' hmmm'' What in the world are we hearing? He say's Jethro Tull. as it went on i fell in love with it before the first song was over. They won me over for real when '' song for Jeffrey '' started playing. Jethro Tull has been my second favorite band ever since. I got to meet them decades later at a book store / music outlet. I just bought the ''Crest of a knave '' album and took it for an autograph ( among every lp they had done) . I was so anxious that when i reached out to shake Ian's hand, I knocked his pipe out of his hand . It flew straight up into the air with both of us watching it tumbling round and round and watched as it landed on my new album( just the cover. Tip, never take the album with you to get a cover signed) . It put a burn mark on it but i didn't care. Martin laughed about it. Dave Peg snickered. They signed every cover i had. Later on that night was the show and i had 2 front row center seats. Ian saw me there and even called me by name right when he saw me. It was fucking awesome. There's more but I'll leave it where it's at. Subbing to your channel right now . Peace out. P.S. Your rite , he is very smart, with a great sense of humor.

Barrie joined in '71, but wasn't featured on an album till Thick as a Brick in '72 although he did record the song Life's a Long Song in '71 which later appeared on the album Living in the Past which is primarily an album of unreleased tracks and B-sides and outtakes and such, an album definitely you should listen to although a few of the tracks you'll already know. Oh! And there's a song coming up where you will definitely hear Ian SING! It's worth the wait.😂

Tony Iommi was only with them briefly, but his musical vision and Ian's were too divergent. The original drummer was Mick Abraham, who left to form Bloodwyn Pig. Fortunately, that left all of the artistic direction to Ian.

You haven't done "Life's a Long Song", which I think will be difficult for you to get around to because it comes from the two disc Living In The Past, which would bring a lot of redundancy. (Not that that's bad with Tull.) It's a masterwork compositionally and in regards to string arrangement and emotional build up. It would be a travesty if you didn't get around to it.
