A genuine evolutionary rock band....Started off an alternative /student outfit.....evolved into an alternative rock band and eventually became a serious,heavy riff band. Imho they ended up fucking awesome. The Electric album is an absolute banger and off the next album ....eadie(ciao baby) is an unadulterated classic. English rock n roll at its best.....with a great american accent😅😅😅.. so glad these are getting an airing.....people NEED to hear these gem's 🎸...you were spot on hearing similarities during "sancturary" the Love album was at the height of their alternative time.

That album with Love Removal Machine on it is named "Electric" and was produced by Rick Rubin. He really had them strip down their sound, which resulted in a fantastic album. Every song on that album rocks.

These are great songs, but the fact that they didn't request "Fire Woman" is borderline criminal.

Funny you mentioned The Doors. He sang on tour with the Doors in 2000 something. Saw them in Seattle on the Pier as the sun was setting and he was masterful. The sky was purple, red, orange etc...and Riders on the Storm starts...I almost started bawling right there. Religious experience.

If they had been placed in a cryonic state for 5 years and came out about the same time as Guns and Roses they would have been huge. There would have been endless arguments about who kicked ass more. I think of big 80's bands and they were so different for that time.

FUN FACT: At one point G'n'R opened for The Cult (in '87, IIRC). Also, the drummer Matt Sorum is in the Edie (Ciao Baby) video - altho he wasn't with the band during recording the album/track, he joined shortly thereafter, and did the Sonic Temple tour drumming for them. Later, Sorum became the drummer for Guns n' Roses, then later still was the Cult's drummer for the album "Beyond Good & Evil"

"Channelling The Doors" well yes Ian Astbury did front The Doors for a tour and I was lucky enough to see them in London in 2002. Ok so he's no Jim Morrison but I wouldn't have seen the other three Doors reform without him.

The Ciao Baby riff is a bit similar to house of the rising sun by the Animals, out of the A minor, but Animals stick to straight arpeggio while Duffy adds the hammer ons and pull offs. Also Tangerine by Zeppelin, starts with the A minor, and on 12 string like Ciao Baby.

One of the most overlooked/underrated rock bands. Anyway: They started off Goth, and have an interesting sound evolution. Always great, IMO! The vast majority of fans will point to 3 albums being their peak/trifecta, in order: Love, Electric, Sonic Temple. But there's bangers on every album of theirs, honestly. Wanna do another 3 pack? Try this on: from Love: "Phoenix" from Electric: "Peace Dog" from Sonic Temple: "Fire Woman" bonus points for checking out "Rise" from "Beyond Good & Evil" (Sorum's drumming return) or "Go West" from their first full LP, the Goth Rock sounding Dreamtime.
@jenniferfoster16925 ай бұрын
Funny you mentioned The Doors! When they were big in the 80s/90s Ian Astbury (singer) was always compared to Jim Morrison. You have to watch them perform in their official videos, like for Fire Woman. You'll understand then. Ian ended up being the singer for the remaining Doors and did a series of performances with them. The Doors loved working with him & he did an amazing job with the Doors songs. He's the only one I can imagine singing for Jim.

HUGE musical change with the album "Electric" -- they went full on AC/DC, if you will. I'm pretty sure Rick Rubin had AC/DC piped into the studio to try to emulate the guitar tone. Regardless, Electric is a killer album. I couldn't get into the more "arena'" rock vibe they fully embraced after Electric. There was a 12" version of Love Removal Machine that was a top 10 Billboard Dance chart hit. I actually remember dancing to it! Billy the guitarist went FULL guitar hero mode on this record.

Take some Doors, and U2, and more edge (no pun intended), throw it in a bag, and shake it up, and you get The Cult. Duffy is great. It's a sad story if you look into it. Fire Woman is a must, as well as almost all of the first album.
@KawaTony19645 ай бұрын
The album with "Love Removal Machine" on it, "Electric", is FIRE. Their other albums are OK, but I think "Electric" is special. In my mind, "Electric" stands with "Highway to Hell" and "Back in Black" as one of the greatest high energy rock-n-roll albums of all time. I would recommend - well, anything from this album - but I especially like "Peace Dog".
