Grew up in the LA area as a kid. Visited this many times. I counted this as AS good a time as going to disenyland when i was a kid. Its shorter but. So much fun. Before the movie jurassic park, this was as close as you could get to animals that lived long ago. The direwolf wall was present in the 80/s.

KZbin algorithm ty, this was so cool! I lived near LA for most of my life and have only now found an interest in all things prehistoric. Next time I'm down there I'm going to make a trip over.

Thanks so much; really glad to hear you enjoyed this episode! If you are into this kind of natural history, yes, the tar pits are one of a kind, such a great place.

Nice. I haven't been inside since I was a kid. Looks like a lot of improvements since then. I worked a gig there though around '05 and we built a stage on that lawn and I remember we had to keep an eye out to make sure we didn't step in those pits.

That is so cool you actually worked on the property, awesome! And yes, it was a lot more elaborate and well-presented than I remember from my early visits. A great surprise.

The last time I visited La Brea Tar Pits, 1990, there were no fences around any of the actual pits. Same with the little areas where I always got the goo on my shoes. I love that place, they have really done a great job with the buildings and exhibits. You did a fantastic job it was just like being there and you are a natural at doing you tube spontaneous videos. Keep it up Mr. Coker!

Thank you for sharing I always wanted to go to the La Brea Tar Pits excellent coverage of the interior of the museum. Grew up in San Dimas California all 4th graders of the Bonita Unified School District get to go to the La Brea Tar Pits for a field trip. All field trips from the time I entered the fourth grade till the time I graduated were canceled due to budget cuts. It was the one field trip that I really wanted to go on thanks again it was an excellent video

Bringing mammoth back will not end badly for people, remember people killed them to extinction and if we bring them back to life then poachers and sportsmen will just kill them to extinction again.

Dire wolf's are extinction.

If trying to use your imagination only to consider what the Colombian Mammoth might look like, you'd have to start at its neck and shoulders and place massive, massive muscles on its neck and shoulders! I'd like to know the weight of those tusks, but know they'd never be held up properly without th neck muscles being so huge. I know that just wearing an 18 carat chunky gold necklace (that's not even long) is enough weight for me to looking forward to taking it off after a short night out. Because if definitely feels that little extra weight. I'm going to go search online to see any images of how large scientists have reckoned the mass of muscles required to hold up those tusks, especially at that 90 degree angle.

Hahah, that is a great point! I also can't imagine how heavy those tusks are and what kind of insane musculature you'd need to hold them up.

Have humans ever fallen into the pit?
@robertccoker4 ай бұрын
Interesting question! There was never any mention of people falling in at the museum, but over the course of history, I would imagine that yes, some poor folks may have gotten stuck.
@ghostshirt198417 күн бұрын
Yes there has been a skeleton of a woman 10.000 years old that was found in there. Do the research on line its there.

I enjoyed how you slowly passed by and usually stopped long enough to inspect each physical exhibit while recording, Most KZbin creators waste their & viewers time by rushing through and passing by the great displays while only stopping for a split second at what they may find as interesting. The fumes from the asphalt must consist of some sort of laughing or giggle gas, as you seem to giggle while speaking & at the end of nearly ever sentence or observation you speak about, its kind of a nervous giggle or laugh though, Did you aspire to be a comedian in your formative years? I watched a video documenting homeless plight of people in LA and the video creator had the same habit of constant giggling which made the video seem insidious, like he has no empathy & was mocking the people with a sick sense of humor about their unfortunate living situations. anyway nice recording of a very interesting place in LA.

I am so sorry for the delayed reply! Thank you so much for your very kind words! I am so glad you enjoyed this particular video. I love this amazing natural resource so much. And yes, I do tend to laugh a lot. 😂 And while I do enjoy making other people laugh, I would never have the bravery to be a comedian. I admire anyone who can do stand-up, gives me the hives to even think about trying. 🤪 Thanks again!
