This tune is titled Reel du lapin (traditional) It is the only name this tune goes by that I have ever heard. It is a commonly played tune.

The tune is french, the name is La petite chatte, tune written by Eloi à Poitrais Leblanc native in Beaumont, NB

Thanks ccbob - I'll look into that, though I have to say that the first few tunes I've found by that name seem to be different to this one. I'll keep looking though. The family suggested to me that it might have come via Yvon Mimeault. Does anyone know how to get in touch with him (I've tried FaceBook with no luck). Cheers Tom

Ah - turns out this one is most commonly known as The West Point Reel but also as Gaspé in PEI.

This is a great tune, but it's not the tune which usually goes by the name of The Gaspé Reel, in the UK anyway. Does anyone know if this one has another name? Also who wrote it - is it tradtional or still in copyright. I don't wan't to get sued if I use it in a show! Thanks Tom Bliss

That is correct. The Gaspe Reel is very different from this tune. I from Gaspe.
