I'm stunned to find this! Thank you so much! I was there! My longtime companion was one of Pavarotti's rehearsal accompanists, also playing for other members of the Met that season while they were in Atlanta. Pavarotti also played with Mirella Freni in La Boheme that week. I got to spend a lot of time backstage with the company that year, including some wonderful long conversation with Dame Joan. Pavarotti was so playful all that week, so full of energy and fun! The sight of the haircut, making him look so young, takes me right back. Thank you for waking up more memories of a glorious time!

Those were the days - the Met on Tour - all that had the chance to experience these exciting performances on tour have memories that last a lifetime. The acoustics at the Fox Theater were excellent as you can hear as well. What joy the audience is having and hearing some of the greatest voices of the last 100 years.

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!! I saw my first opera (Tosca) at age 5, the following year in a Met tour in Atlanta I'm 1973. I went every year until they stopped coming in 1986. Some of the most precious memories of my life. It is now, mostly, like a happy dream of a time that longer exists, with so many wonderful people and music. It means a lot to hear these voices in the Civic Center, the orchestra, which mostly played my first opera experiences, and the precious audience, of so many dear souls who loved the opera.

It’s amazing to me how many people can’t manage to get through a 2 hour opera without coughing, let alone hacking a few out. For god sake, take something before you come! It’s ridiculous. You’re in the presence of greatest, people!

Sutherland & Pavarotti proving their voices were not the product of studio trickery. How they could sing! Very good vocalizing from all participants. Quite a remarkable live recording. Aside from the prominent tape hiss, I think this is amazing. Well done. Was this recoded usin a "Nagra"?

@@OperaMyWorld Nagra was a brand of reel to reel tape recorder used by professionals in the field. It was small enough to be portable yet was capable of very high quality recording.
