I have to make a small but very important clarification about the word "grasa" (fat). This song is called "la grasa de las capitales" for a reason. The word "grasa" in Rioplatense Spanish slang (Spanish spoken in the area of Buenos Aires and Uruguay) is both an adjective and noun to group everything that is tacky, especially a person who is rude, uneducated, simply with a low socio-cultural level but not necessarily economic, though, and that's why they talk about "la grasa de las capitales", all those people with money (who probably live in the exclusive neighbourhoods of Argentinian capitals but with no interest in defending the local culture, in favour of the dictatorship. They go on to describe those people like "gente revista, gente careta, la grasa inunda cual fugazzeta" "magazine adoring people, false people who live of false appearences, the "fat" floods like a fugazzeta (a kind of pizza with lots of cheese, bacon and onion).

The noise you heard when the song starts, is grease bubbling ready to fry potatoes, empanadas or anything (torta frita, etc) an "Revista" is a direct refference to the "GENTE" Magazine that reflected all the "high society" of those years like "PEOPLE" or "CARAS".. or Metropolitan..mm Fugazzeta is kind of pizza, that you describbed great. The cheese named Muzzarela, when the pizza is in the oven lets escape oil and water. If mozzarella is a good one , when heats turn in to a soft texture... Well known, as a pizza cheese. Jaja espero sirva. Saludos desde Córdoba, Argentina. Greetings from Córdoba, Argentina. Arriba Charly!

Dear man, with all due respect and gratefulness that you decided to listen to this little-known (at least worldwide) song... you shouldn't react to songs in a language you don't understand if the only thing you'll have to say about them will be "I don't speak this language". Good lyrics enhace the song, of course, but however good they are, the main thing about music is... well... the music, not the text. Do you think every person in the world who loves and enjoys listening to the Beatles can speak English? Certainly not! And English and American music are everywhere, so it's difficult for me (and I'd say most people from all over the world) to understand why a song's language would matter a single bit. And don't get me wrong. I also know people like you here in Argentina, who don't speak English and can only enjoy songs in Spanish because they feel like they "have" to know what the lyrics say. But, again, if you are one of those, feel free to reject reacting to songs in a foreign language if they'll be reduced to "no comment" unless you can get the text. I'm telling you all this because having someone from outside Latin America listening to this is a very big deal to us. It almost never happens, and we are very (VERY) proud of our national rock music. Don't worry, we are not expecting you to speak Spanish, it's fine if you just comment on the song itself and how it sounds to you. I really hope all this doesn't sound rude when read from a screen. It's not my intention at all. Once more, thank you (both of you) for giving one of our legendary Prog bands a try! It was a fun reaction to watch. Anyway. I've translated the song for you (I agree with you about Google Translate, song translations look just weird). It's not a word-by-word translation, but I tried to keep it as true to the meaning as possible while making it a bit more straightforward. This is from 1979 and the genre is (I think?) progressive candombe (candombe is a very popular Afro-Uruguayan rythm). Important: "Grasa" literally means "grease" or "fat". But in Rioplatense slang it also means something like "vulgarity", especially when something is trashy and showy at the same time. So the song is actually about about what makes the celebrity world and the "high society" of the big cities so disgusting. And the "don't stop dancing" bit is actually critical of the vacuity of contemporary mainstream foreign music (mainly disco), which didn't quite reflect our struggles at the time. The country was going through it's last military dictatorship, and people were being kidnapped, tortured and murdered by the government. It wasn't the time to go dancing around like nothing was happening. --- Lyrics [with Translation] --- ¿Qué importan ya tus ideales? [Your ideals don't matter anymore, what you sing about doesn't matter anymore, (when) the metropolitan "grease" is covering up your heart.] [Why are you crying? Is it because there's yet another one out there saying: "Come on! This is your oportunity to become famous."? Well, I've gone through that already: you'll have it all, but it will be nothing really.] [I've been there (too) many times now, looking for the bread and wine, trying to sow a path that can never be in bloom.] Gente re vista, gente careta. La grasa inmunda cual fugazzetta. [Don't get involved anymore with: bar people, bar singers, the all-wasting world of TV personalities, overly made-up girls, sun-burned grannies, notorious people and phony people. That's all oily pizza-like disgusting "grease".] (x2) [Can't stand it anymore! Can't stand this metropolitan "grease" anymore!] (Latin Jazz-Tango-Pop instrumental break) No transes más... Don't stop dancing!

In case someone is interested: Serú Girán - La Grasa de las Capitales (1979) Serú Girán was an argentinian supergroup created in the year 1978, by Charly Garc*a, David Lebón, Pedro Aznar and Oscar Moro. It is considered as one of the greatest and most influential argentinian bands of all time, due to the quality of their music and the huge cultural impact they had. La Grasa de las Capitales is their sophomore, LP released in the middle of a dictatorship, that after the awful reception that their self-titled álbum received, the band managed to change it’s image with a much more direct, contestatoty and aggressive style. They got rid of the orchestral arrangements that were so critizised on the previous release and decided to go a little more conventional instrumentally, while on the execution it turned out to be an absolutely innovative record. The LP contestatory style of the album is noticeable directly from it’s cover: a parody against the papparazzi and frivolous magazines like the popular Gente, that would also take part on some of the lyrics, taking also the society itself as a topic on some tracks. The song starts: "What do your ideals matter? / What does your song matter? / the fat of the capitals cover your heart. With those words Serú Girán declares a war against media, going against the mediocrity that Charly hated so much." Reviewed by www.sputnikmusic.com/review/81598/Seru-Giran-La-Grasa-de-las-Capitales/

Great reaction Trivex Silver, I'm from Argentina, thank you! Liked and subscribed. La Grasa de las Capitales was released on may 17, 1979. It contains a criticis of consumer pop music of fashion at that time, particularly in the capital city, the cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, on dismise of the local one, for example, youth were zombie with 'Grease' (1978) film music, and the late 70's disco music influence. Grasa (grease) means in argentinian spanish something of poor quality and the cover typography make allusion to argentinian popular magazine "Gente" (People magazine franchise) that had trated very bad Charly. John Travolta's couple in the 1979 movie 'Grease' is Olivia Newton John (the album cover play with her name as Aznar's girlfriend). "Non stop dancing" part recall some Giorgio moroder music. Charly is classical music teacher since his 12 and one can imagine his musical taste. Another song of this album, the lastone, (Canción de Hollywood) says, with a parodic Saturday Night's Fever soundtrack imitation as background: "Well it's the end of an american comedy One garden, two who love each other, violin music Gas light, the sky is so painted blue The city, a set: glass, cardboard and sawdust. Hey boy, do you see the land you were born in? its you. Goodbye Paris, New York Its movies don't exist, goodbye. The entire album in its 2020 remastering is gem, a masterpiece rescued from the past.

I should feel insulted by your reaction, but I understand you, let me give you a little context. 1978 the military dictatorial regime only allowed disco music to be heard on the radio, that's why the reference to: DONT STOP DANCING, if they found you listening to this song they would take you away and they killed you in some dark place after of course torturing you, This is a protest song to all those stupid people on TV and radio who did what the military wanted, I recommend that you translate the lyrics and listen to it again, thank you ! also for spreading Argentine music.
