For more than 48 hours, Azerbaijan has closed the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia, the Lachin Corridor.
The closure of the only road connecting the Republic of Artsakh to the Republic of Armenia, whatever the motive is, has one consequence: a humanitarian disaster for around 120,000 people living in Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh). And the most vulnerable groups are in the most difficult situation: children, persons with disabilities, elderly people, women.
Of course, I have no doubt that in Azerbaijan they don’t understand what are the rights of vulnerable groups, the rights of women or, in general, human rights. Therefore, I refer my appeal to our partners carrying out an international and diplomatic mission, with whom Armenia has worked and continues to work, because we have adopted the principles of democracy and human rights are paramount for us.
It is very easy to talk about women's rights when women are not faced with an existential problem. It is very easy to talk about human rights when people are not facing physical security challenges. I personally, and the Armenian Government is committed to its mission of strengthening human rights and equal opportunities for all, but that agenda is no longer relevant when it comes to fundamental human rights, the right to health and the right to life.
Therefore, I call on all our partners carrying out international and diplomatic missions to take clear and effective steps for a peaceful resolution of the situation.
