Katie Huynh he didnt know how to play, the director said his hands were really slow and they were originally gonna get a hand double. But he worked for like 3 hours or more every day so they didnt, but it was prerecorded by someobe else, so what you hear isnt gosling, but it is his hands playing the notes you hear..

At 1:57 - 2:00 when runs his hand over the black notes to find the two gaps in-between the B-C and E-F keys I knew this guy could play. I mean when you don't have to look at the keys and you feel your way around the keyboard for those of you that don't play, that is how we do it. You only have to look down when you need to reposition or verify the position of your pinkies (right pinky = top of melody, left pinky = bass note / tonic). I'm guessing that shot wasn't just happenstance but deliberately and beautifully crafted so the pianists among us can just immerse ourselves in to the film. Usually I get thrown out of my suspension of disbelief when the piano player isn't really playing but this was amazing to watch.

This song sounds like a longing for love that gets found and then it slowly evaporates away. Each moment more meaningful than the last escapes your thoughts. It even brings a tear to your eye to think that something so beautiful existed. It’s a love that was too good to be true. You wake up more hopeless each and every day until one day it hits you that you need to give it up. This song is a tribute to the journey you go through in love. I remember holding my girlfriend a few months before she left me and this song caused tears to roll down our faces as we realized how fast love can strike and then vanish. Sadly I haven’t been able to see her since. This song describes my emotion better than any other piece could. A hopeless nostalgia that surrounds your thoughts. Wake up you’re dreaming again. It has happened so many times I lost count.

The best friend she used to be with you and I. Now without her I spent time to reconnect to my best friends and find who my true friends were. Happy with Mia... but sacrificing his dream because in the epilogue you can see the "could've been perfect life" but it really shows that Sebastian has the girl but not the dream (notice when they are listening to the piano in the bar and the pianist is not Seb).

heard this song for the first time not through the movie itself but through a freshman playing it almost every day for the past school year. now that my sophomore year is over, and by just watching it today, i have this sudden realization that highschool is gonna end soon, and that i need to do as much as I can to really enjoy my time left as a child.

I remember hearing this for the first time, and feeling like I couldn't move. Back then, it made me feel nostalgic for something I had never even had. Didnt think that one day, I'd come back to it, and be able to relate so deeply. Ah, my stupid heart.

My first date with an ex was to La La Land, we started travelling all over Europe a month after that date, and when that trip was over, so we were. God damn does this piano captures the feelings of every moment from start to finish.
