I have been holidaying in Gran Canaria since 20th September (our first holiday abroad in what has been two very long years) and if I had not seen the news about the La Palma volcanic eruption before my flight here, I don't think I would even have known that there had been an eruption. Gran Canaria is 150 miles from La Palma and as with Fuerteventura, the eruption does not appear to have had any effect on Gran Canaria that I can detect. The same cannot be said for the unfortunate La Palma residents of course.

@@JPinFuerteventura aim that question to the European arrivals outside of blighty my friend! The island will take in international travellers whether like it or not and thus the issues of anything coming onto the islands you personally just can't control!! Nor when they occur or they don't!! Hi JP, The update useful, however let's point out islanders were told 3 days before the eruption that there would be no eruption so that was misinformed based on scientific judgement, secondly the island had experienced over a 1000 tremor's up to 3 days before. The FCO in England issued a warning. Judgement to travel by them was refer to a tour operator. There have been tremor's off the coast of fuerteventura which you do know about. And they are a lot closer! And as always the islands are aware that a major eruption could and I only say could cause a undercurrent of water ie a tsuarmi. These are facts. And are within the scope of the islands...are they not?? Sea defences on the island are low as the coastal areas are in places sloped. And of course everyone sadly years ago lost lives with the tsuarmi from Japan Thailand etc with natural occurances. My remarks are a mere balance of your's when we both know that we are not qualified to state on nature and predict when things may or not occur... Thousands lost lives...and of course finally those that dismissed the issues of COVID and deaths were sadly wrong! And of course folk were told to evacuate the islands and repatriate back to blighty when the Madrid authority shut down the Canaries and I was one of them and the anxiety and eventually 8 months later achievement of the travel insurance claim and associated activity to get it!!! So on balance be wise to expert opinions!!
