I think it's closer to the old (think it was called Miami Bass and Atlanta Bass, correct me if I'm wrong) like Bass Outlaws and so So Def Bass Allstars than it is to Trip Hop so it's more a ressurection of that. Portishead didn't use 808 booms, fast hats and rolling snare fills.
