The Smiling Madame Beudet. As I couldn't find a version of this film online with English language subtitles, I took the liberty of grabbing a copy from KZbin user FromOurPast and overlaying subtitles from OpenSubtitles. I hope this is helpful to anyone who has been looking for a copy.

@@eclecticsteak getting there gradually. I'm trying to do it in chronological order unless something in the book I haven't seen comes on TV, but some of the early films can be hard to sit through, especially at night, because they require a lot of concentration to understand what's going on. It's easy for me to fall asleep because classical music makes me tired.

At 4:07 what does the text say in French exactly. I searched it and nothing came up for the meaning. "je 'tenvoie i-inelus"

"Je t'envoie ci-inclus" - I'm sending, attached here, ... Something like this ;)

"Je t'envoie" means "I'm sending you", so it was probably about the theatre tickets.

My understanding is that Madame is stuck in a marraige with a man she hates. Her husband gets a letter inviting him and her to the opra, but she refuses to go. While he's out she reflects on her situation. She eventually decides her only way out would be to kill her husband, so she puts bullets in the gun he uses when he jokes about ending himself. However in the morning she's having regrets and tries to remove the bullets while no ones looking, but she's unsuccessful. So when her husband turns the gun on her and pulls the trigger, he nearly shoots her. He's distraut over this, thinking she intended to end her own life.

I think there are different versions of this film, but the longer ones are all French. I do speak a little bit, but not enough to understand a whole film :/

Yes, that's what happened, as clear as mist, she looked so much happier as he embraced her.

@@g.lowenklee2268 i would not be so sure...look at her face through out the embrace ...she is still very moody..though they go out together at the end ..into the mist...and she walks on platform..i dont know if it means anything...but it is slightly ambigous to me...like she is adjusting to him but aware of her superior intellectuality compared to him..
