Een coming-of-age drama gebaseerd op de graphic novel van Julie Maroh. De 15-jarige Adèle is zeker van twee dingen: ze is een meisje en meisjes gaan uit met jongens. Maar wanneer ze Emma ontmoet, een jonge vrouw met blauw haar, wordt haar hele leven op z'n kop gezet. Emma geeft Adèle de kans om haar verlangens te ontdekken, om zich te laten gelden als vrouw en als volwassene. Een ontroerende film over het geluk en verdriet van een eerste grote liefde, en alles wat daar bij hoort.

To me, Emma has been a red flag from the beginning, stating with the fact that she was flirting with Adèle while she was still in a relationship with anoter girl. Then there was the diner scene with her family when she did not bother telling her mom and step-father that Adèle did not eat some specific food. Also, she considérer that Adèle's projects were not ambitious enough while not everyone one wants to be famous or earn a living out of art or writing. While Adèle loves to read and has therefore cultured, she was always feeling that she was an ignorant next to Emma or her friends while all they talked about is their jobs. Emma got also distant from Adèle and made a feel like she was her maid and beneath her. She left her alone during the party to spend time with the pregnant lady. Then, she found the perfect excuse to dump Adèle.

Oh, thank you! It's so obvious when you see how distant Emma is after the party at her house! I thought it was disgusting the way she dumped Adele because it was an excuse to get back with one of her exes and besides during the party Adele was watching them a lot and when they talked together they looked like a couple. Adèle simply felt abandoned and she thought she was wrong because she was dependent on Emma but if she was more confident she certainly wouldn't have begged for pity 😓

I think this is one of the reasons why they could not stay together any longer. Apart from the fact that Adele cheated on Emma, we could clearly see something was wrong with their relationship since that reunion that took place at Emma & Adele's house: Emma was flirting with her career partner, Lise. It is so sad because since the beginning they were COMPLETLY different, starting from their families and the way they understood homosexuality. What I wanted to say is that those further differences and problems were really obvious since they started dating.
