What you are talking about is a stereotype because of the projection of Indian movie industries (bollywood if not official and we have 20+ movie industry based on different languages here) in the west by the media there (and maybe its intentional). There are some changes but plot is basically same. Also another great movie, Haider is also adapted from another great play by Shakespeare "Hamlet".

This song revolves around the story of the pair of star crossed lovers they are fell in love when they are suppose to be enemy.. The song depicts his inner turmoil and the love that makes him wish to abandon everything , even the enemity that he is suppose to harbours and just accept his feeling for her .. And be bold enough to just forget everything that world has and only know the feeling of being in love and loving her ... This is really a beautiful song ...
