Is Biomedical Science worth studying? Do generalists still have the upper hand over specialists in the job market or has the economy turned the tide? In this episode of the podcast I walk through 3 live job listings in biomedical science. While they are all lab-based, they are not at the mercy of the publish or perish paradigm in academia. Today let's talk lab jobs in biomedical science, from beginner to pro.

Jack, I love what you are doing! A career in biomedical sciences requires that you know what direction you want to take as biomedical sciences is a broad course. This will benefit many early career professionals. Thank you for this great initiative.

Thanks for the informative video on this topic. It was great to hear and know what each roles that you brought up in to the talk here (3 roles) does when employed as these roles. From what I hear and see, Bioinformatician or Bioinformatic skills are must these days in all of Biology fields when you are looking for jobs in science. This skill would increases the percentage of getting hired. What are your thoughts on this? I am also curious about the jobs after you finish PhD. What are the pathways after this degree in Australia? Industry or stay in academics? Also how's surviving in academics for Australian scholars? Thanks again for your outstanding contents as always Jack!

I have an upcoming episode on bioinformatics/computational jobs and skills! Not essential right now, but a big advantage for certain workplaces. Can’t cover all the jobs in one video but will slowly walk through different careers in the coming months

My advice would be to go with either First Year Textbooks (Campbell Biology) or a general interest science magazine like Scientific American. The Science section of NY Times, Washington Post is also useful to scour for headlines. All you should be aiming for is raising your broader baseline level of knowledge at this point before deciding which one to deep dive into. Good luck!
