Just a Few Acres Farm

Just a Few Acres Farm

Күн бұрын

We're moving chickens around our small farm all summer long, and have developed many easy to build labor-saving inventions for making the work easier. In this video, I explain how these inventions work while we move a batch of broiler chickens out to pasture.

Great ideas in here. Love the trailer instead of using crates. We've had some birds get injured in those if they have to stay in for much time at all, even if we don't put many in there. Appreciate your work and farming methods. Lots of similarities in what we are doing. Keep up the good work! Chuck from Sheraton Park Farms.

Love the idea of the 1x3s instead of the 2x4s. We made one similar to Justin Rhodes' meat shaw, but it's a little bulky to maneuver and difficult when all the birds are under it. Thanks for the tips!

grandad used to use something similar to your chicken pasture houses when we keep meat chickens for the family and a few of the local farms he just had an old 70s lawn mower tractor with custom, tin metal over the engine to keep the rain (He never put it away from spring to fall) out that he hooked to the chicken house which he built it with a 2x8 board bottom to make a sled to pull the house. it worked great other than having to use brake cleaner to start the mower but that was age and neglect

Hey Pete really appreciate all your videos. Keep the Dad jokes coming! Question about predators: I had a fox get into my chicken tractor the first night. So I surrounded the chicken tractor with electric poultry netting from premiere 1. I've been doing this for 2 weeks now and its killing me to move the tractor and re do the fence every day. Any suggestions? I couldn't imagine doing this with 5 tractors going...

I grew up on a mixed farm in Alberta Canada. You remind me of the innovative way my Father approached tasks ! We had a dairy too so had that activity twice a day 7/365! We ran old refurbished everything, my Father was of Scottish ancestry so it was a cash economy! It was hard work but we had a wonderful family life , never were hungry! I went on to have a successful career as an engineer and CEO of a small global Technology, Engineering and Service company , nothing I did was as difficult as what my dad and mother did running that farm! One thing I think is missing you need a good heard dog. We had the small shorter haired Scottish Boarder Collie, moving cattle or pigs is simple and they do not bother chickens , ducks, turkeys or Ginny fowl we had them all! Some herders will , Wheaten terriers are good too if you don’t want heading or dander , if you allergic , just make sure they are “ traditional Irish Coated not American coated , which have been bread for the show ring . Very good farm dogs !
