GIA Knowledge Sessions Webinar - recorded live on April 16, 2020.
Diamonds are made of tetrahedrally-bonded carbon atoms that give them the highest hardness, molar density and sound propagation velocity of any natural material on Earth. These unique properties make them significant in the technology sector, but also produce the beauty and rarity that make them among the most sought-after gems.
The demand for such a versatile and valuable material has led to rapid advancements in diamond growth technology in the last decade. GIA senior research scientist, Mike Breeding, PhD, delves into HPHT and CVD diamond growth processes and how UV fluorescence patterns, phosphorescence reactions, and diamond inclusions are among the many clues that help researchers separate natural from laboratory-grown diamonds.

Thank you for the lesson. I now know that my SW/LW UV lamp is very important to identify these.

Thanks for the chemistry lesson. As a consumer, I prefer lab grown diamonds. I just came here to learn the differences between HPHT and CVD. I took 2nd year chemistry classes in undergrad and I was able to understand your presentation. Thanks for not dumming it down too much.

Bom dia, excelentes aulas. Gostaria de saber sobre o processo CVD, sem a semente não forma mesmo um diamante? A deposição de carbono em cima de outro substrato não formaria um diamante? Obrigado.

"Be worried you have a lab grown diamond" Why be worried? What if I just want to know? Sounds biased against lab grown diamonds...smh.
@user-kpkxgtj
@user-kpkxgtj 2 жыл бұрын
Maybe the "worry" is due to fear of paying natural diamond prices for a lab grown stone? That being said many who benefit from the diamond trade do seem biased in favour of natural diamonds.
