I remember it in real time, I was 20. It was a gift to Thatcher, fanning the smoke of ultra-left wing Militant infiltration in the Labour party. Shame there's no similar movement in the Tory party against the ultra-right wing. {:o:O:}

@@blackhope let's have some honesty over the militant tendency. They were trotskyist in beliefs, the Labour Party wasn't. Even though I believed in much of the miltant beliefs, at that time, it was right for the Labour Party to throw them out. Militant was a cuckoo in the nest

TV Eye didn't do themselves any favours by inviting Austin Mitchell to this debate. Very aggressive and abusive speaker and prone to interrupting and shouting down anyone who disagreed with him (as he accused Militant of doing), as well as someone with a long history of misogyny. No wonder he never went anywhere in politics.

I don't agree with everything about Militant (leninist?) but Taaffe was prophetic here - Labour didn't get into power until 1997 and the policies Blair & co laid down just didn't make much of an impact and some were in fact to the right of Thatcher. Why vote for a pale imitation of the Tories? Here he is.. satanic Tony looking guilty and deranged when talking about Thatch: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-22073434

I support Jeremy, because his team is the only team willing to TRY, to fix this: ****ECONOMICS & HISTORY 101: A CRASH COURSE FOR ORDINARY PEOPLE**** *WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR WAGES POST 1980 UK/US* i.imgsafe.org/36de5a2815.png *WHAT HAPPENED TO POOREST U.K PEOPLES POST 1980* i.imgsafe.org/36e6864622.jpg *WHAT HAPPENED TO AMERICAN PEOPLES PRE/POST 1980* i.imgsafe.org/36e9e77413.jpg *A REASON WHY WE DON'T TAX THE RICH ANYMORE & WHO WAS PRIMARILY RESPONSIBLE* i.imgsafe.org/4eff110ee0.png *EXAMPLES OF HOW CAPITALISM HAS FAILED THE WESTERN MAJORITY* UK: i.imgsafe.org/36efe3e86c.png US:i.imgsafe.org/4f4644f0f5.jpg *WHAT THE ELITES DID WITH OUR STOLEN WAGES* i.imgsafe.org/4f4c8af290.jpg *WHEN THE WAGE THEFT TOOK OFF. US DATA* i.imgsafe.org/36f5205e80.png *UK=A MIRROR IMAGE* i.imgsafe.org/36f7805a86.jpg I can replicate this picture in most capitalist countries. A model Exported via financial markets of US&UK over the 1980's and 90's is now dominant. It is supply side economics, and it doesn't give a damn how much money is in your pocket, you are a consumer only. Only when you can’t increase your consumption year on year by taking on more debt do the asset owning classes care(1929/2008) but only enough to pillage your country's savings to allow them to keep lending you the wages you no longer get for what you produce for them per hour, and haven't done since before 1980, never to change. Indeed, it’s getting worse: www.ifs.org.uk/tools_and_resources/incomes_in_uk As for poverty induced criminality, they get stuck in private cages for Group4Solutions and generate thousands of pounds of income per prisoner for G4S a year from their imprisoned slave labour. *HOW SOCIALISM CAN SAVE CAPITALISM FROM ITSELF & AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT UKLABOUR PARTY UNDER CORBYN WANT* i.imgsafe.org/36f9b776f1.png Along with this is a law that according to economics Prof R.D Wolff roughly states (paraphrased) any company selling up, merging, off shoring, closing, the workers will be given the option, to take control of and operate the company or the buildings and equipment that the company has here if a multinational chooses to leave, and the public bank Jeremy will create will provide the funds to do so. The Corporations will not be allowed to take the equipment and resources the UK taxpayer subsidized if they leave. The workers left behind take that over. It's called Democracy @ work and Germany already has similar laws including that 45% of the board of directors of a company employing over 1000people must be taken from the base work force. All combined, it’s a major reason why their manufacturing hasn't buggered off to China. If the UK had these laws by 1980 the last 40 years would have been very different indeed, it would have made it so much more difficult for capitalism to abandon the country's in which it grew up, and with the tools and factories left behind turned over to the workers the corporate elites would have to compete with the workers they left behind for their UK market share which they would lose once the word got out in favour of the UK workers at X factory v shoddy Chinese goods from x Global Capitalist Supranational Corporation. **Socialism & the Media* We are told three lies regarding Karl Marx & Socialism by our historians, teachers, parents, media, and the defenders and beneficiaries of Capitalism: The Media Says Marx = 1) Central planning. 2) Government ownership 3) Single party rule i.e. the USSR ... The only problem with that is the USSR practiced State Capitalism, NOT Socialism. Nor China, Nor Cuba, there has NEVER been a truly socialist state. GOVERNMENT is NOT supposed to own private enterprises under Socialism but is to manage the democratic provision of essential services, education, health, power, water, transport, and housing according to the works of Karl Marx. He never wrote a single word on these three topics above, nor did he ever propose "an economic model to follow". He was a critic of Capitalism. For the private sector, he wanted nothing less than democracy at work in order to save capitalism from itself and save us from Capitalism. He saw and documented the future from 150 years ago, and our leaders response was to discredit him through manipulations of economic fact and history taught from the youngest age in the farthest schools for eternity. His entire and ONLY focus was on the problems and injustices of capitalism and how to solve them, this is why our Captains of Capitalism, our education, our historians and the Media have lied to us for generations. His life and writing are a danger to the slave master relationship that the asset owning classes want regardless of the country where they control the show, capitalism promised to get rid of this slave master relationship which is a hangover from feudalism with liberty, equality, and fraternity and then it failed to do so anywhere on this earth, instead creating a global version of the hunger games with a trans boarder capable elite. In summary, Capitalism, has collapsed *twice in 75 years* and had 11 downturns in between, now entering the 12th. As I have proven, and many places are proving, we can do better than capitalism. We MUST do better than capitalism, or else it's only ever downwards for the western majority from here on out. We need to move far quicker than we are at reclaiming our economies for the many not the few. We are out of time... i.imgsafe.org/4f85693775.gif Give it a few seconds, large gif. *Congratulations* You now know everything you need to know about how capitalism is failing the majority and how to change it which is more than most politicians and economists. You may also have trouble sleeping at night if you've understood it all.

@@gaygambler Ha Ha nice try mate ! To be fair I have got respect for the SPGB (I always go and chat to them at their stand at Tollpuddle every year) and I think my grandmother (who was a very active communist) belonged to the SPGB, but obviously I don't agree about The Socialist Party being a pale imitation. I could, i'm sure, write a lot about why The Socialist Party is not a pale imitation and why they are more socialist that the SPGB (the SP's correct historical analysis etc) but it is late, I am tired, and you would probally get better information from the SP themselves as I have not been an active member of the SP for years. I would recommend looking at their website and maybe buy one of their books (I would recommend any book by Peter Taffe or Tony Mulhearn).
