“Labour KNEW In 1997!" | Julia Hartley-Brewer SKEWERS Labour’s Commons Leader

Ministers are under pressure to spell out their plans to make schools safe from aerated concrete as pupils start the new term.
Children’s summer holidays are coming to an end and Parliament is returning from recess against a backdrop of uncertainty about how long disruption will last as any risks are mitigated.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt moved to reassure parents the Government would “spend what it takes” to address the problem, but Treasury sources later said money for repairs would come from the Department for Education’s (DfE) existing capital budget.
More than 100 schools and colleges have been told by the Government to fully or partially shut buildings following the recent collapse of a beam previously considered safe.
But more classrooms could be forced to shut as further assessments are made of the risks of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac) in buildings, the Government has admitted.
TalkTV’s Julia Hartley-Brewer clashes with Shadow Commons Leader Thangam Debbonaire over whether Labour knew about risks of RAAC concrete in schools when they were in power.
Thangam: “The Government knew in 2018!”
Julia: "The Labour Government knew in 1997!”

Everybody knows what Labour's priority is here. It's not saving kids lives. They could have made RAAC a priority when Labour was in power. They didn't. This is about trying to get rid of Rishi Sunak. They hate him because he is rich and he is Asian. Labour supporters don't like either of those groups!

Well said, we are stupid, and I mean majority of the voting people. They all sing from the same political hymn sheet. It looks like the gullible public will put in another Labour government, just watch how many of the policies they change that the rancid tories have brought in, it will be zero, zilch, none. Wake up people it’s a scam. Nothing really changes and if it did they would outlaw voting.

Oh they did have an idea alright. They discovered/created the problem under the Blair government and hid it in the long grass to land in the laps of the next Conservative Government when they release the details of the report. Just another primed Blair hand grenade ready to throw when required. The Labour Party have demonstrated on every possible occasion they have little to no concern about public well being and in fact are more than willing to weaponise the public sector and safety against their political opponents. Grooming gangs anyone? This is of course, unless you are a 'gimmegrant', when the 'red carpet' comes out. Yes that is a pun. We have seen this 'Modus Operandi' time and time again in the last decades from the left in general. A bomb carefully planted and concealed as much as possible by the last Labour government, under Blair, later set off to ensure they can force they way back into power by appealing to the desperate and gullable, as per usual. They just never mention the fact they help create the 'desperate' so they can abuse them and steer them at will.

Surely every country can’t always have such low 444people to choose from , maybe it just that the same type of people want to be in political power ? They’re all terrible people , usually . What I am always amazed by is how conveniently Labour forget. They forgot they built the 30 year life schools yet didn't repair them 30 years later. And they constantly complain when policies are cancelled in 2010, completely forgetting they'd bankrupted the nation again so we had no money for such policies. And sadly they'll do it all again if they achieve power next year. Why? Because much of the electorate have poor memories too and the young electorate live in Dreamland. What a merry-go-round.

PFI’s in certain circumstances can be a good idea but Blair & Brown took them to the extreme, to make themselves look good but it was just short term gain, for what a lot of then long term pain, just one of the reasons as to why the NHS is costing us so much because of these interest rates.

Stop quoting that old chestnut re no money left. All outgoing govts have left similar ''notes''. When Labour left office growth was at 2.5% ( something the tories haven't managed in 13 years!) Imagine the revenue from that and what could be put into our public services. Labour were also paying down the debt from the GLOBAL financial crash. If anyone here thinks the tories have their best interests at heart, I invite them to check out Britannia Unchained written by Truss Kwarteng Raab and Patel etc where they say British workers are the worst idlers in the world and other derogatory things. Obviously don't if you're a millionaire/billionaire hedgefund manager Russian oligarch or KGB or tory donor.....

@@juliegregory3900However they did leave an annual deficit of £142bn which both Labour and the Conservatives had strict austerity plans in place to reduce, so it’s disingenuous to say that the growth would have carried on under Labour. It’s also interesting you refer to a global banking issue, but when Labour complain about recent global issues eg record inflation, COVID, fuel supply issues they are less keen to explain they are happening all over the World, instead insinuating it is a purely Government led problem. Ultimately we have seen the worst group of politicians from all parties in living memory, the standards are appalling.

Labour weren't perfect but they did invest in our public services unlike the tories who only ever strip money from them. Thingum has always been high on volume and wordcount and low on detail. This is a golden opportunity for Labour so they are going at it full tilt. But this has been a known problem for 30 years. Politicians from all parties kicked the can down the road because while it was a known problem the buildings were declared still safe. The buildings have now been declared unsafe so the government has been forced to act and appears to be doing so at pace. Those of us with longer memories than Thingum will recall the note left by Liam Byrne for the incoming 2010 government that all the money had been spent. That plus the financial crisis led to a tightening of the budget belts. Labour would have been forced to do the same or borrow ever more and it is disingenuous of Thingum to say otherwise. She knew nothing about the subject apart from her short briefing. Julia had researched. Portacabins are now derided. I spent three years educated in Portacabins at my primary school. Put up in a hurry to house us baby boomers who had outgrown the Victorian primary school. These were dry and heated and properly equipped. Did not do me any harm. Finally the terrible mini budget - Labour supported it except for the proposed tax cuts for the rich which were a small element of the overall cost. There needs to be more push back on that.
