Labor, as a physiological process, refers to the series of events that occur in the female body to facilitate the delivery of a baby. It typically begins with the onset of uterine contractions, which gradually increase in frequency, duration, and intensity. These contractions cause the cervix to thin out (efface) and dilate, creating a pathway for the baby to pass through the birth canal. As labor progresses, the baby descends further into the pelvis, guided by the contractions and the mother's pushing efforts. Eventually, the baby is born, followed by the expulsion of the placenta. Hormonal changes, including the release of oxytocin, play a crucial role in coordinating and regulating the various stages of labor.
