YES! Thank you. People always say we don't need cardio but we do. I usually start people off with LISS then after then get in better shape have them move up to HIIT. But I love Dan's very detailed answers. Cleared up a few questions I had. Thank you Dan & Lee!

+Shawn Eagle How many times a week should HIIT training be done? I usually suggest 3-4 times a week. But would like to hear what you think.
@Labrada8 жыл бұрын
+Shawn Eagle We would agree with you 3-4 times per week is ideal for most people. Extreme athletes may train with a HIIT style 6 days a week if it suits their style of sport. Hope this helps, have a great week.

Lee when using machines to do resistance training I've always found it harder to do say a machine press for shoulders as opposed to a lateral raise machine cause your working the primary shoulder area with triceps as a secondary muscle then a smaller head of doing side or rear laterals .

Very interesting last question. Thanks for asking it Lee. So when we talk of a regular serious bodybuilder that decides to add 1 session of steady state cardio weekly for heart & health benefits. How long of a session are we talking about for interesting enough results ? 30 min is enough ? 45 min ? 1h ? thank you for taking the time to read me
@jcl12678 жыл бұрын
Hello Lee and Dr. Dan this is good information and very well explained, I like the fact that you try to cover the details that are left out on other weight training videos. I do have a questions though....... what about if I do MIIT (moderate intense interval training) for example jog for 30 seconds then walk for 30 secs, run (not sprint) for 30 secs then walk, then sprint for 15 secs when walk for 30 and repeat , etc, for 25 mins, will this be a better benefit then steady cardio and HIIT since we are not getting to the point where we produce latic acid in our legs and if we do this say 4 times a week will this prevent muscular gains on our legs?
@Labrada8 жыл бұрын
Hey JC, good question, here's our opinion, no form of HIIT or cardio will prevent muscle gains. The key to gaining muscle is simple... stimulus (lifting weights) + Food & Water + rest. As long as you are consuming enough calories to be in a slight surplus, with the right macro nutrient split, along with proper amount of water, and sleep 7-8 hours a night, you will not prevent any form of muscle gain by performing 20-30 minutes of HIIT. HIIT is more likely to help you build muscle then preventing you from building muscle.

Would a 20 minute routine of 2-minute on vertical climber cycled with 2-minute punching heavy bag repeated for the entire 20 minutes be considered "HIIT"? Trying to find cardio that doesn't take away from muscle mass.

@Labrada8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for coming by our channel. Fasting for 17 hours can be a tough one... There really isn't a one solution that can work for everyone. It all comes down to your nutritional needs based on your fitness goals, as well as your own personal taste buds, along with what you can afford and what you have access to. Hiring a local personal trainer or possibly a nutritionist would be a great choice, wish you all the best with your goals.

Hi lee.. i'm body building fanatic and a diabetic person which this genetic prob sometimes holds me back.. What is your advise on a diabetic body builders?? As i know Tim Belknap was a diabetic patient and a former Mr.America...
@Labrada8 жыл бұрын
Hey R. AiQith thanks for the question. This is not Lee himself, just an employee of Labrada. Wanted to be upfront while answering your question. With a great understanding of nutrient timing and macro nutrient amounts you can obtain desired muscle mass growth. With would recommend following a 40% Protein 30% Carb and 30% fat deit. While trying to consuming at least 50% possibly has high as 70% of your carbs prior to and post workout. This will optimize your fast digesting energy sources (carbs) around the times of day that you need it most. Hopefully this helps some, following other bodybuilders with are type 1 diabetic, or even contacting a nutritionist can be a great idea. Thanks for question, wish you all the best.

I'm 51 year old male...what do you suggest?.. I lost 45 lbs.. use to be a power lifting champion in high school...I work out like an animal twice a week...work 2 jobs...just did 65 minutes on an elliptical machine...800 CALORIES.. is this going to benefit me?? or should I take a different route?
@Labrada7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. That's a very rigorous schedule no doubt, benefits come from both nutrition and exercise. Honestly health stems more from nutrition then it does exercise. If you are consuming 15 calories per ideal body pound per day, with a 40/40/20 split of protein, carb, and healthy fat, then yes performing any type of steady state physical exercise for 30-50 minutes can beneficial. Hope this helps answer your question, all the best.

I am a 25 year old female. I want to do cardio.maybe go for a run everyday.will that help to lose weight? I am very curvy and want to stay this way.just want to burn some belly fat
@Labrada7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking Musikmonik, burning unwanted body fat has to do with our calorie intake (food we eat) VS calorie expenditure (calories burned). Performing Cardio will help you burn the calories for sure, but if your food isn't where it should be, all the time spent on the treadmill may be at a loss. You see in 30 minutes of cardio lets say you burned 300 calories, which is awesome however if you don't know roughly how many calories you are consuming or the ratios of protein, carbs and fats in your meals it may be difficult to lose unwanted body fat from cardio alone, as you may be fluctuating as much as 500 or 600 calories a day just from the types of foods we eat. So a steady diet with well balanced meals is key for our success. Hope this helps, wish you all the best with your fitness goals.

What is the optimal period for a study state cardio or HIT after a workout session ?
@Labrada8 жыл бұрын
+haider adnan Great question, the duration in our opinion should also mirror your current goals, we would recommend anywhere from 15-40 minutes of cardio post workout. The more excess body weight we have the longer the cardio post workout should typically last. While taking into consideration that you want to be out of the gym within an hour and a half or so... :) Hope this helps, all the best.

What do you recommend for a week of training , ie body part split and cardio for a physique type body not a bodybuilder more of 180 lb man
@Labrada8 жыл бұрын
+Neal Francis Thanks for the question, we typically recommend workouts that last 40-60 minutes, include about 18-26 sets of exercise, with a frequency of 3-5 times a week of resistance training followed by 20 minutes of steady state or HIIT based cardio post workout. Hope this helps, all the best with your fitness goals.

will doing steady state cardio everyday and after weight training burn my muscle off ..?
@Labrada7 жыл бұрын
Good question, as long as you consume the proper amount of calories a long with the ideal macro nutrients you will never run the risk of burning muscle performing cardio post workout.

So if you weight train is it best to do HITT after lifting, before, or on non lifting days to burn most fat?
@Labrada8 жыл бұрын
+Eric Wilhite Good question, we feel that performing 20 minutes of HIIT after a 40-60 minute workout is the ideal workout. If your goal is to burn excess body fat then performing a HIIT on your off days may also be a good choice. Thanks for the question, all the best with your goals.

Is jumping rope a good option to burn fat and retain muscle?
@Labrada7 жыл бұрын
Jumping rope can be a great option to increase energy burning. In addition adding in other types of body weight workouts can help increase fat burning through muscle confusion. For example high rep lunges. Lunge until you can not lunge anymore. Take a 2 minute break and repeat, this is just one example. Jumping rope can be strenuous on the joints so be mindful of that if you have any lingering knee or ankle soreness. Hope this helps answer your question. All the best.
@JJGhostHunters7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply! I usually jump rope on my deck made of wood. It gives a little when I jump and I try to jump just enough for the rope to pass like boxers do. I will try the lunges you mentioned as well.
