Best dogs ever. You missed out one important characteristic though. They eat and are food orientated. Food often takes over the entirety of their brain and thought process. Labradors don't have a "full" setting, just an "eat" setting.

All of this content is correct with one exception. My Chocolate lab Chip was aggressive. I am a disabled Army veteran and Chip became protective of me. As he got older he protected the property, had to put up signs to warn people about him. He never bit anyone but even his vetnarin said when Chip was young he did not trust him %100. He weighed in at 125 lbs and not fat. He many times intimidated delivery people with his size. He had the patience of a saint with children. Chocolate Chip was the best dog that ever lived in my book.

Labradors are literally the most versatile dog on the planet. They can live in the snow and in the jungle tropics, and everywhere in between. They can be loud or you can train them to be quiet. They are great for the rural countryside or can manage well in a city. They are the prototypical dog, man's best friend 💯

I've been around lots of breeds of dogs over my 40+ years and owned quite of few, and there are many really good breeds, but Labs are truly exceptional if not the ultimate breed of dog - they do so much extremely well. They're one of the most perceptive to their human family's needs and will bond very strongly with their people. Labs will readily capture your heart and spoil you to other breeds. Just lost my 14-year old girl last Friday and my house is so empty without her in it.

I'm at his side, because I promised him to be there for him to the end. The time just flew. I find myself watching KZbin videos on black labs and looking at his pictures. This guy came into my life when everything around me had crumbled down, and he became my best buddy in the whole world. If there is a downside to having a black lab, it's got to be what I am feeling now. I just writing this because I need to get it out of my system. The most comforting characteristic of my labs - I've trusted them completely around everyone they met. They love everyone, and never would hurt a soul. I've had a few breeds that could be "nippy," not hurting anyone, but nipping at ankles. I've been nervous because of this, worried people wouldn't understand the nature of these breeds. No worries along this line with my labs. The are truly a wonderful animal, and I've loved them dearly. They are so trustworthy, and very comforting to have as a pet. In a couple of weeks it will be 14 years since y wife and I got 2 8 week old black Labs--sisters from the same litter. We lost my wife Linda's dog Addy 8 years ago to bone cancer of the jaw, and she still mourns her. My girl Roxy is now really getting old. Both her sight and hearing are failing, She doesn't have a mean bone in her body--loves everybody (which is why we chose to get Labs). Fantastic with children--she's been with our 5 year old grandson since his birth, and I've never had the slightest worry when they're together. Also great with our cat (who is a miserable, mentally unstable specimen). Roxy is my best friend, and if I'm ever feeling unloved, all I have to do is look at her and say "hey you" and she proves me wrong. I dread the day I know is not that far off.......

I enjoyed this video and agree with most of it. However, Q, our chocolate lab, was aggressive toward certain dogs. He was also very protective of me and my wife if he sensed someone was moving toward us in a threatening way. These traits didn't come out very often but they were inside him and they were scary. That being said, he was a beautiful dog inside and out. We miss him terribly.

I have a 3 yr old Chocolate Labrador and she is a wonderful dog. This video was very positive about the breed and I agree they are great dogs, but I just wanted to share some of my experience of owning of owning a Labrador. First, they want to be with their family/pack. If you plan to not let it live inside the house with you, do not get a Labrador! They will not be happy! Two, they have lots of energy and need daily exercise, whether it be a long walk or playing fetch in a good size back yard, they love to retrieve stuff! Three, they are very loving, but the also need lots of attention from their owners, they are very smart and need daily stimulation, they will constantly bug you until you either walk them or play fetch with them. Four, my current dog is a pure breed, but she has trouble being itchy and scratches herself a lot (a lot of pure breeds have health issues). We buy medicine from the vet for like $70 a month to help her be comfortable, so something to consider. I have owned labs cross bred with other breeds that haven't had any health issues and they have been great dogs! Just maybe something to think on, but be sure if it's a puppy, you know what the other breed is, so you have an idea what you are getting when it grows up. I think, that's it! They are are a great dogs for families, especially if you are active like getting out to hike, go to the park or have a decent sized backyard to play with your dog everyday, one caveat, I should mention, is even if you have a huge backyard, your Labrador won't be happy unless you're out there with them, they need you to interact with them. If you are not committed to play and give lots of attention to them, every day, your Labrador will not be happy and I am sure there's another breed better suited for your lifestyle. One other thing, I thought of is for older folks that need a great companion dog is older Labradors adopted tend to be way more mellow and don't demand as much exercise as the young ones, but they still need to live inside with their people! If you do that, you will have the best/loyal friend/companion ever!!

I could not agree more except in this one instance. We were camping in a popular area with our lab Rose. The campground rules specified that dogs were to be on leeches at all times so we did that. Thru the day Rose would go as far as she could and wag her tail for every passers-by to pet her. Then at one point Rose tore out from under the camper like an attacking Shepard just barking and snarling at a woman who was just passing by and minding her own business. We raised Rose from a puppy to the ripe old age of 14 and that was the only time we ever witnessed such behavior.

I had the golden boy, named him Benny, he is softy, he took the colour after his Grand dad as he is fox red. The bond between Buddy and Benny is unique, Benny the son learned all the games, jumping high and jumping in the water retrieving balls and sticks, diving. Benny create a game of running chase if we run out of ideas of what to do next. Labradors are friendly, sociable dogs, intelligent and energetic, needs a calm leader Pack , assertive and they like outdoor activities dog lovers.

We are on our forth lab. Our first was a barrel cheated beauty like the dogs you have shown here. The last three have all been the taller thinner version that is very popular in the USA. More a specialized retriever with a bit more energy and they are more athletic. Making them suitable for upland game hunting. Slower to lose their puppy energy and not as fast to gain weight. In all other ways they are same sweet natured dog. They probably will put on a far better act of being a guard. But its only an act, if the thief enters despite the ferocious warnings. They likely will have a ball placed at their feet. My only warning is that few labs are to be trusted with domestic birds, chicken, ducks, etc. They are not trying to kill them, but the way they play with them will often do that. Other animals I have not seen a problem with, even little kittens are safe.

Great video but I really do think they should warn people about getting English Labradors when you have really small children. Yes, Labs are gentle etc but my female yellow English Daisy turned into a 75 pound bruiser once fully grown and when she's in play mode she can easily send people flying, like a muscular, furry bowling ball sending human bowling pins flying all over the bowling lane. She's my first Lab and I was and still am SHOCKED at her strength. Accidents can happen so you need to be super careful when you're at the dog park if there are stocky English Labs running around. Because they are so playful, in a dog park setting especially I've seen them accidentally body-check adults and even hurt them badly. My own girl Daisy ran right over a kid once like a playful freight train -- thank God the kid wasn't hurt. I don't mean to belabour the point but, in terms of physicality, these dogs are NOT "teddy bears". They are brutally strong! I can't imagine how many human knee surgeries they've been responsible for! (And I'm not talking about poorly-trained Labs that jump up on people or whatever -- no excuse for that and it's not the dog's fault -- I'm talking about a stout English Lab with a case of the zoomies.)

I'm literally watching this video because I'm curious to know if there's other labs that are like my Foster and I own pitbulls so I'm not going to be surprised at very much but this house of pit bulls has nothing on that lab! He is absolutely so strong and even against a dog that was made for fighting he is too strong and he is able to do way too much damage even just defending himself. It's not that he's starting anything but he's the finisher if someone else decides they want to.

Apparently my foster dog is the one and only Labrador that you have to be very aware of his power with other dogs and people because he has taken on two pitbulls in my household and easily taken them both. He is apparently one in a million but he is really great when he's great but because I rescued him and I don't know his past there is something going on and sometimes he gets confused and he'll growl and not want us to come near and he defended me from a family member who was in a rage and that bite was said to be the worst single dog bite that Dr. Had seen. Took a chunk out of his calf on the back side and his shin on the front side and he is having skin grafts to help it along... Like I said apparently I have the one and only!

my labrador is dog aggressive and i dont trust him with toddlers unless im with him, not all labs are friendly in all aspects sometimes. i also have a bully breed and she doesnt have a mean bone in her body. she love babies all the way up to adults. it just depends on any dogs demeanor. my labrador was also socialized

I have a beautiful Doxidor which is a Dachshund Labrador mix. Her name is Bella and she looks like a mini white lab with a long weenie dog body. She's the best, all dogs are a gift of love and friendship.

My Coco to this day, I miss her sooo much! She was the child I never had. My chocolate lab was the best to me. I miss you Coco always.

The Only negative I have is their shedding. Otherwise, they are the best.

Labrador: The "Elemental Dog".... Heart of Gold; Stomach of Iron; Head of Stone. They let you know that it is time to give them attention by putting their amazingly heavy chins on your knee. Drawbacks? Prone to arthritis and hip displaysia. I've had a ramp for our 70-pound Lab to get into and out of our SUV for several years... as he can no longer jump up into it. Lab owners will always laugh when you tell people "My dog is NOT spoiled - he does not sleep under the covers with us"

Got a lab 1 year ago, couldn't help myself, got another lab a month ago. Just needed 2, one wasn't enough.
