My lab had separation anxiety with me. It didn't matter if others were home. I would take him for a walk in the morning, do a short training session, feed him and finish getting my things together for work. He would be fine one minute , then the realization would be seen in his eyes that I was leaving. He would grab my arm cutting me with his teeth or tearing my clothes. I eventually started to grab him by his collar and put him on the spare bathroom. I would then let him out as I was going out the door. He had such a sad look on his face. After 2-1/2 years he was still doing this. When I divorced I had my ex take him even though our training methods were very different. He did dominance techniques while I was using rewards, marking and was working with a trainer for leash work.

Our pup is almost 5 months old and I have not had the stones to leave him on his own in his crate yet. Lucky to be mostly retired but still want to get him conditioned to being left alone. Look forward to trying your approach of seconds to minutes to hours. Thanks and I love a northern accent.

Hi I am thinking of getting a lab or a standard poodle but I just don't know if either one of these dog breeds can stay home for 7 hours for 5 weeks a day please can you help me?

Do you remove the kong when we are back? Even though it's 5 secs?
