You didn't note that you need to make sure that the valve hole must me on the spread rather than the cross so you can get air into the tire. Yours was right so lots of room to get the inflator in so assume it wasn't a fluke. Good to make note of this before starting. I put tape on the valve hole so I am aware of its placement. Also for a double cross you skip 2 holes between spokes pointing in the same direction. For triple cross you would have skipped three. Not sure triple cross is possible on a motorcycle wheel, but you can go up to quadruple cross for bicycles due to the length of the spokes. More crossing makes a stronger wheel.

That’s an awesome way to explain it. I used the valve hole as my starting point for reference but I may have failed to elaborate. Thank you! Really helpful way to look at it.

Nice comprehensive video on respoking a wheel. When I did my Harley Sprint wheel there were no videos to help and it took a while. Thanks Keep On! P.S. I welded up a simple balancing, truing stand using the wheels own bearings.

Here I am trying to lace mine by putting each spoke through the hub and into the wheel, one at a time... didn't even occur to me that I could put all the spokes through the hub FIRST. Thanks for the video man, this is really helful.

I relaced the rear rim on a Suzuki 90 back in the 70s, by observing the pattern of the front rim. trued the rim quite well for first time, everything great. Now, 45 yrs later, I learn about inner and outer spokes. Oh well...

I enjoyed your video, but I noticed that you laced your wheels differently from you picture on the wall. Your finished wheel shows your outer spokes pointing backwards. The picture shows them pointing forward. I laced mine up same as yours and then noticed in an original photo of my bike the forks facing forward also. I prefer the look of having them face backwards. My question is...is this okay? Is there a purpose to having them face forward? Thanks. -Mike in Bend, OR.

Here is what I am taking away from this, get a fine point sharpie, brake assembly out and rim tape removed, label either end of a spoke hole between the rim and hub as A-A, B-B, C-C etc in an inconspicuous place : )

Hello, I teach motorcycle repair at a Vocational/Technical school in Brunswick, Maine. My students noticed that the spokes from the near side of the hub went into the far side of the rim!!?? At 14:41 of the video you can clearly see that the wheel is totally laced incorrectly. OOPPS. Outdoor Powersports Program class of 2022

@@KeepOnWrenching Here I am again, a year latter with my second year students and their comment is "I didn't know Hellen Keller had a you tube video on lacing wheels!!" Your wheel IS NOT CORRECTLY LACED SIR!! As a certified trained Honda Pro technician(now shop teacher), I can see that the wheel is not laced correctly. Look carefully at where the spokes ended up in the rim. This video was very helpful as to what NOT to do. Please send me the name of the motorcycle shop mentioned at 1:22 into the video that you said trued the wheel, thanks Bill Ross Outdoor Powersports Instructor - Region 10 Technical High School Brunswick, Maine

were all your inner and outers the same length? I thought mine were supposed to be but I cannot get this to work! once I get to the outer spokes they are all too long somehow! but my spoke is symmetrical just like yours so I don't see what I'm doing wrong.
@KeepOnWrenching
@KeepOnWrenching 4 жыл бұрын
I found using the filler tube hole as a good reference to start from. The spoke ends are shaped differently. That’s the key. I had the exact same issue with the ones being too long. I had to start over a few times until it all jived perfectly.
@fish8196

@@KeepOnWrenching nice! Yeah I just finished my wheel up and the spokes are all equally poking through the nipples so the spokes were not a perfect fit. I'm likely just going to have to grind the tips of once my wheel is trued so that it doesn't pop the inner tube. thanks for the video. it was helpful to me!

@KeepOnWrenching
@KeepOnWrenching 4 жыл бұрын
It’s not that easy, Dexter. Totally support marking areas before disassembly to assist with reassembly. But there’s a weird art to this stuff. It’s finicky. I took over 2000 images of my 70 CB350 build and those images didn’t convey the complexity and nuances in certain circumstances. That’s why I made the video. To just show how it all goes together. 100% support pictures along the way! Thanks for chiming in!

You should take it to an expert to lace it. You have a mistake that only a pro can see. The holes on the rims are half on one side and half on the other side. you lace the outer spokes to the other side of the rim. this is a huge mistake. If I were you, I would desapeer this video. This is the reason why only profesoinals should load wideos like this. the problem is that others will do the same as you and this can make security problems.
