If your acrylic paintings are looking too rough when you try to blend, try this tool to keep everything smooth! This tool will help keep your acrylic paints wet longer so that you have time to blend like you would in oil paints! I'm showing you this tool in action to blend clouds in wet over dry vs drybrushing and again in a more advanced raccoon painting!

So delighted to have found such in depth videos and I am enjoying your company as I start from scratch again. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into these. So interesting, never heard about this. Easily the most interesting video over the last year :) I do more acrylics on miniatures than canvas and now wonder if this technique could be transferred to that hobby. Never seen any of the best painters use it but looks like it should be possible. Just need a fine mist spray and I guess some small make up brushes for the smoothing.

It's funny you mention that. I used my airbrush for this for the past 20 years. I got the fine mist sprayer to test to see if it could be an alternative to those without an airbrush and ended up using this more myself! My airbrush is always set up and ready to go at the easel, but this holds more water and has just been sooooo convenient. The airbrush is better at getting more consistent misting though. The difference isn't enough to give up the convenience of this sprayer for me. Either way I'm glad we have both options! :D

I'm using Acrylic Retarder (from Schmincke) for my Acrylic paintings. It's so damn good, it absolutely changes the way of painting with Acrylics because the drying time is much longer and I can blend the colours much better. Still not as long as with oil paints, but I usually have 10-30 minutes on the canvas (depending on how thick the paint is and how much retarder I use), which is absolutely fine for me. But the tip shown in this video with the sprayer and the soft bruch is absolutely great, thanks for that. I will definitely try it out when I do an animal painting.

I’ll get me a fine mist sprayer. Good tip. I should get myself a couple bigger sizes of mop brushes . Intend to get sticker shock over the price but I need to bite the bullet and get one good one and take care of it. Do you use tube acrylics or the fluid acrylics ? Also I wonder if I’ll have better luck with DePaul f alcohol on fluid paint for the right effects with that.

Edges and application and canvas type may be some of the concern with acrylics, but as an oil painter I find the most obvious concern is over brightness and too much color saturation in the look of your painting if you are not careful about color mixing. Otherwise I don’t have a problem with acrylics.

Asking as I'm watching, so sorry if you cover it later.... do you use the same mop (blush) brush through the painting? I would think it would need to be cleaned off and dried constantly.
@Lachri
@Lachri 10 ай бұрын
I usually have multiple mop brushes available because they need to be clean and dry to work. If it starts picking up too much paint, I don't have time to clean and dry it before the paint on the canvas dries, so I grab a fresh one in that case and clean both after I'm done with that stage. :)
@basenkaua
@basenkaua 2 жыл бұрын
Wonderful trick, the only mistery that puzzles me, what do yo do with your mop brush after every use. Do you have to wipe it off withouth water before the next blending action? Do you use a bunch of mop brushes during your art session?
@Lachri
@Lachri 2 жыл бұрын
Because the paint should only be on the very tips of the brush if you're using it correctly, I only rinse the tip of the bristles then move it in circles on a paper towel to dry it :) If paint does dry on the bristles you can use a brush soap like you would with your regular brushes.

Being a 3D artist, I thought painting would be dirt simple. I was wrong... I decided to work in acrylic, so I watched a lot of beginner tutorials, but it seems like they dab some color here, and a few strokes there, and it looks kinda like something until you step away and that's when the magic happens. It looks really cool, but not real... I'm a detail kind of guy. I don't think like that. I see shapes and lines, and it gives me fits to dab and smear. :) Your channel is a breath of fresh air. I loved the spray bottle on the Hubby. I almost choked on my coffee. I used one on my cat and he hated it. Kept him off the table for sure. I decided to paint my notebook cover because I don't like it the way it is, and searched just for info for how much paint I'll need for that. And I found this video. Now I want to start painting with acrylics, buy a soft mist spray bottle, drink some red wine and play with my Cretan lyra (not with a shoe). No husband to correct though, and my dog is so sweet it never needs correcting (and I never would spray water towards an animal). No red wine in my home this moment. And it is midnight, so no lyra playing either, I'll let the neighbours sleep. So what can I do? Subscribe.

I use acrylics so they do not look like oil. My techniques approximate egg tempera.. the brilliant, pre oil, method. Just an opinion, but I oil was the demise of the masterful painting prior; pre Botticelli.

So you mist first, then paint and then blend? Or does that depend on what you're trying to achieve?

It depends. Sometimes I mist the canvas first, sometimes while painting.

Logically, if her husband was sprayed with the water that means afterwards he went and got blended.

Ugg, I HATE turpentine!!! Even when I use oils I can only tolerate gamsol or mona lisa odorless paint thinner.
