Best line from any American song ever: "Well I turned twenty-one in prison doin' live without parole, No one could turn me right, but Mama tried. Mama tried to raise me better but her preaching I denied, No one could turn me right, but Mama tried."

I listened to the original of this song and then decided to listen to some covers of it. This was the last of four that I tried, and the first three were singles or pairs of people recording themselves in their homes. They were all light years ahead of Laci Kaye Booth. Personally, when you are going to cover a great song, you have to go one of two ways... stay as close to the sound of the original as you can, to prove your skill and pay homage to the original artist. Second, you can try to put your own spin on it. This is risky though because it is harder to do it "better" than the original artist did, and if you are not doing it better, you are doing it worse.

Oh man... that poor Daddy. I'm always good to go until a full grown man starts crying - especially over something like this. Wow.

Why am I the only person from Texas who thinks she butchered that song? Her voice hoarse sounding and raspy. She sang it like a gospel song, it was weird AF.

You ain’t. It didn’t jive with me, but I think that’s a younger generation thing. That shaky unstable sound.
