Lacing Bullet Loops in a Western Gun Belt | Leathercraft How To | EASY Template!

Quick tutorial video showing how we use our acrylic bullet loop templates. The templates are crafted from a high quality clear cast 1/8" thick acrylic, providing a sturdy guide to run your scratch awl along and the clear template helps to see your leather and avoid blemishes. These templates take all the guesswork out of bullet loop spacing and provide consistency.
We also go over a quick how-to on lacing bullet loops for western gun belts.
We craft our western gun belts and bullet slides in a 10/12oz full grain veg tan saddle skirt sourced from Wickett&Craig. We use a 5/6oz strap at 1" wide in the same leather.

Getting the spacing right can be tricky for sure. As soon as we were able to cut our own acrylic patterns the bullet loop templates were some of the first things I made - they're a time saver for sure!

Thanks very much. I've found that burnishing the edge on bullet loops isn't a great use of time/resources (not great bang for your buck, so to speak). When you're pulling the strap through and pulling/tugging/stretching the leather, your edge gets ruined anyhow. So its easier and quicker to just clean it up with a quick burn once you're done instead of spending a lot of time burnishing the strap edge and then being disappointed that it didn't survive the lacing process very well.

Amazing work, I do have a question. Is stitching required in between the loops or is that another way for making bullet loops?

Hi Victor, thank you! When you're lacing bullet loops in this fashion, wetting and molding the leather around the bullets will hold them in place just fine once they're dry so stitching in between is not necessary. Stitching bullet loops is a different way to add bullet loops to a belt and we will create a video for that process as well.
