Lack Of Compliance With The Small Things Spells Trouble With The Big Things

If you are in a job where you have to deal with clients or the general public, be alert to the small clues or “tells” that reveal a person’s state of mind and attitude. If a prospective client fails to show a willingness to comply with reasonable, basic rules, it almost always means the person is going to be a problem client. Do not ignore these subtle clues.

Reminds me of a guy who worked at my company for a few months. Small guy. He could work very hard, but he had problems. Had played some professional grade football. Loud, but also very argumentative. Couldn't take any criticism. Was brought up in a Private Catholic Boarding School. Yup. He must've been thrashed mercilessly by everyone while at School - so that was his coping mechanism: getting aggressive enough so the problem would go away. Wouldn't even take 5 seconds to look at his work area before ploughing head-long into it. He was always being tripped up in stuff and making mistakes. Mistakes that cost the company money. They let him go of course. He was the sort of guy who you could put in to do one job and only one job. A pity, given that he was a hard worker. But the role did require attention to detail, and emotional continence to be successful. Yes. I will affirm your observation. People who are incapable of an initial test where attention to detail is involved will often not have the resources (intellectually and emotionally ) to enter into any business interaction and comply in a normal way.
