I was a football official for 17 years. I left when it just got to bad. Every game some parent would lost it. I've been threatened, followed home in my car and attacked, physically by a parent while I was officiating!!. Now being 6'7" and 280 and a former division 1 football player myself I wasn't the one who went to the hospital...but I and most of my colleges quit. I herd the year before the pandemic they didn't have a full season due to no body wanting to officiate anymore. I worked hard and not only knew the rules inside and out for elementary all the way up to college but always called a fare game. The last year I had to kick so many parents out of games it was ridiculous. People remember we are there for 3 reason and 3 reason only. 1 above all else we are there for the safety of the kids. 2 to excuse a fair field of play by implementing the rules of the game...AND...lastly...#3 SPORTSMENSHIP! We are there to support good sportsmanship on and off the field of play. So when a parent starts yelling to hurt another player, or starts swearing, I will stop the game and address that individual or group of people...and remind them of the sportsmanship factor. Keep that in mind when you go to your kids next game...OH YA! And remember...there are no scouts at that game looking to recruit you kid. Its just a game. AND if there was a scout there and you did act like that...say goodbye to that scholarship.

I did football and lax officiating. Middle school parents and coaches are often psychotic. I quit after a coach literally threw a flag out of a stadium. Head coach was a math teacher, using language the crips would be proud of. Not worth it- coaches, parents haven’t ever read a rule book.

As a ref....Gents this is running time. in 20 seconds the next 2 crews of kids comes flooding on to the field. The ref had a flag down and did NOT stop play which was the best he could do to keep from ending the game while signaling CNOTE to the table. Some tournaments insist that refs go to stop time in side of 2 minutes in the 4th for close games, but that's tough to manage. As you pointed out -- it's fun club ball. But the salmon dad.........(Grin)!

You SOOOOO overstate the initial contact. The guy who catches the ball and get’s “clobbered” clearly gets a glancing blow at best! Neither defender hit hard, both held up. It looked worse because of the angle, but if you watch it again, it probably shouldn’t be a penalty. It’s just how he fell that made it look like contact.

Saw box lacrosse at Spectrum stadium in Philly 80's. Field was the hockey rink, except turf over ice. It was constant checking into boards and fighting. Saw 2 players lift and drop opposing player over boards into team bench. Drunk fans sporadically would hop onto field and challenge players to fights, both teams instantly would unite and go after fan. Craziest event I ever saw!!! TV commercials for upcoming games showed nothing but violence, narrated by same guy who voices for Monster Truck shows

This is what happens when you raise your kids to not be able to take a hit or a loss. No adversity training means they want to fight any time something doesn't go their way. Then the dads, who contributed massively to this inability to handle anything negative, come running out to show that they too are afflicted by the bitch bug. I've coached lacrosse for years and the parents are more difficult than the kids. The first thing you have to do is teach the kids how to handle adversity because the parents completely neglect this now. I blame my generation for their shitty parenting.
@chrisbrann77332 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100%, most of the kids that play LAX up here are hockey players, and I remember what that was like, I played for 17 years, and all those kids were rich spoiled brats, and that’s exactly how they acted, and they still do, friggin parents that think their kid is the winning lottery ticket

All my years playing this great game and not once did parents get involved like this. The kids won't get hurt with helmets and pads on, it's the dads who'll get black eyes and broken teeth. Guys living vicariously through their sons. Then.... you have the moms who have to get in there. And why is it you never see parents rushing the field in higher level games? We've all seen some pretty nasty hits, clean or cheap, in college games, and not one parent on the field. Let your kid play the game and learn.

Got in a bench clearing brawl bc a kid hit me from behind (before I even touched the ball) going for an absolute Hail Mary pass with just a few seconds left… I def would have scored too, I already had 3 goals already that game since it was a jv game and I played both freshman year. Anyways when i got back up I called the kid a hick and swung on him and then both teams cleared the benches and went at it 😅. Looking back I was talking hella shit all game because I had a goal in the varsity game beforehand too. They definitely got the last laugh. I got suspended for 3 days starting the fight but my coach still let me play on game day and parents were kinda pist ngl 😅. We had a brawl in the middle of a game after one of our guys was laying kids out clean no flags.. the other coaches were cussing and trash talking a middle school player. Our head coach went after their coaches and got thrown off the fields. Then they had their big ass defense men target our smallest play and hit him dirty asf, little guy got up slashing and that started the brawl. I played D and ran down the field full speed cause it was happening on the other side and I did that same ninja kick into the mess of bodies! Parents and coaches broke it up and the refs walked off the field and left. The game ended there 😂 we played the team one more time that year in a crazy game where we got an OT win. Epic shit

@lindaimbriale59702 жыл бұрын
@@joefriday1586 I’m not sure which fields you are considering to be “all those fields”, but travel teams are not playing for free on school district fields, at least not on Long Island. Most LI school districts have a policy that require a majority of the kids participating live in that school district for a permit, which would exclude 95% of the lacrosse travel teams. Some school districts will rent out their fields and that would be considered revenue for that district. Having looked through dozens of district policies in Nassau & Suffolk counties over the last 2 years, there are not many SD’s that will rent to outside organizations. County & town fields are rented out as well so pay to play is just that. If school districts played year round there wouldn’t be a need for private travel teams

My kids play hockey & lacrosse. Have seen over a dozen fights in hockey; not even one in LAX. The helmets stay on, then I don’t see the point … same as football. Fighting is an unfortunate reality in some of these contact sports & most of those kids were not throwing punches, but rather flailing their arms. Their fathers should teach them self-defense & throwing a punch is step 1. I do not support this behavior whatsoever, which is why I say self-defense; only to protect your self if there’s no way around it.
