Josh, you look like a new goalie. I’m a expirenced one playing since 4th grade and I recommend you widen your stance to seem bigger and be more explosive. Check out Lax goalie rat great page with great drills. Thanks for these though.

Thank you for this video. Lots of good ideas on fundamental approach to low shots. I am sharing this with my youth goalies. Much appreciated.

I’m not necessarily a huge goalie or anything but I keep a really wide stance like jack concannon. I also play on a pretty low 3 step arc. I’ve been playing the goalie position for the past 3 years now, and for you I recommend having a wider hand along with playing with more lateral steps. This allows you to have more time to track the ball and you can take smaller steps and reach the pipes easier. The big thing I’m seeing in these drills you are doing is that you aren’t using your bottom hand as much as you should be. Work on really punching with your bottom hand on any save and get more power. For low shots you could also always drop to your knees like in hockey. Final thing I know my whole thing is kind of scattered but the only shots I tend to step to are those bouncers because they are harder to track, the rest it’s quick lateral movement. I hope this helps you out and you can benefit from some of it!

Ayyy! You're the man!!💯 I really appreciate all the info, I haven't had the benefit of going to any camps or clinics and I've had to piece together my technique as I've learned and got more comfortable. I have a lot to pick up on still no doubt haha. Lately, through this season I definitely felt a lot better in a wider stance. Last season just starting out I think I was a little worried about having a wide stance and opening up some room top shelf since I'm pretty short. Our coach played goalie in college and, maybe just for my body type specifically, he coaches stepping out at an angle to the ball. Since I'm smaller when I take that step out it just makes me a little bigger and allows me to cut off the angle and take up more room. You're totally right though, doing that doesn't allow for as much reaction time as when you step laterally!

I model my stance after Jack Concannon as well. He’s athletic as hell and bails out the atlas D constantly 🤘🏻 #gobulls

Ayyy! Thats dope man! Kinda the same for me, I played in high school and stopped for a few years, but I had to get back out there! Hell yeah, being able to put your own wants aside and sacrifice what needs to be done for the team deserves respect.💯 I had a hard lesson in that last season.
