If you put the top half of the door back on and a latch vertically between the door half's you can switch between a full door and half door only things you need to buy are a latch and a second hinge for the top half

Actually did this in my house when my mom had twin boys. They figured out how to climb the stair gates shortly after they learned to crawl xD Homemade dutch doors stopped them though, and by the time they were tall enough to potentially scale them they were old enough that it wasn't needed.
