Another lovely restoration. I love how you try to keep as much of the original item where possible. So few people would have repaired the wood as you did.

Thanks for sharing another beautiful restoration. I used one of these 60 years ago when my family would summer in upstate NY on a dairy farm. Before we fed the chickens, we'd use this sheller. Theirs was dark red with black trim and gold scrolls painted on the sides. You probably already know this, but the handle was a large, flat lazy "S". You did a cool replacement on yours. Avril says the man-human sure brings home cool stuff to sniff and play with!

For cracks and splits in wood like on that crank handle up to 3-4mm wide mix fine saw dust (I sieve the contents of my dust collector) with table top epoxy until you get a paste, trowel it on over the cracked/split area, let it cure and sand it flush. You can also use a tiny bit of oil-based wood stain to color match without affecting the epoxy cure.

Love it!!!! I really like the fact you put it back to the color it was made with. That's one thing I don't like that most of the other channels will change the color to what they like now with what it was made with. Thank you for that!!! Oh and great job restoring it Enjoyed and gave a Thumbs Up also

I liked your video and thought you did a very good job of restoring this piece that most people would have scrapped! Now, it is a useful tool again, or a showpiece in an exhibit. I liked the way you repaired the broken leg instead of just making a new one. Now, it has returned to the time it was first made! Thank you for posting!

Another one saved! And this one will go on for another 100 years with no problem, our stone walls are full of these corn husks, I think the Doormice drag them in there. You really need to get the sand blaster to get that deep pitted rust out, I used the cup brush, and a Fartool roller brush like you have, but unless you treat the iron with Phosphoric acid to stop the rust it will come back under the paint, I used my sand blaster only yesterday and it gave excellent results, I see your cat loves to ping your bolts all over the floor, I have the same trouble !

I remember going into the barn with cousins to shell the dried corn we pilfered from the corn crib. We wanted to feed the chickens and the horse. Of course grandma would fuss at us, more so because of the bees and hornets that hung out in the corn crib than because of us snitching the corn. Every visit to the farm was an adventure to see what new thing or place we could discover.........and not get ourselves killed in the process. :0)
