In 1978 i was a teenage race marshall at Donnington park . Our spot was the top of the craner curves with my back to the traffic. my knees used to knock together! We were very close to the track with just a couple of hay bales for protection! I remember the kawasakis of Mick, Barry and Kork Ballington very well.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mick Grant many years ago at a party at Norman Dunn's when he was over for the UGP. He was then riding Yamahas and I believe he was sponsored by the Davidson group and I do remember him on his Velocette at the Carrowdore 100 and if my memory is correct his then helmet had a Belfast and District sticker. He was a lovely modest chap and told about Continental riders he could easily beat on the British short circuits duffing him at the GPs. He was a stylish talented fast guy that did his talking on the track.

Awesome Dave. This was my Dads Hero growing up. I dont think Mick would remember me now but I have done a few pre-65 trials with him and the Scottish 2 day trial back in 2013 when i was 18 years old riding a UPB Bikes Cub for robert moore. Would be nice to meet him again as I told him one day i will be road racing and I have just finished my first season in the BMW F900 cup. He has some great stories. Looking forward to part 2 :)

Mick Grant my era Dave what a rider luved the Kawasaki's back then I remember watching Mick at the transatlantic races at Brands and seeing him coming out of the pits back then just awesome . I also will never forget reading about the time when Peter Williams had his horrendous crash on the Norton it was a big story back then not sure of the year though in MCN that ended his career early what could have been for him he had a dealership in Southampton if I remember correctly .Sad to hear that Kawasaki treated Mick quite badly just shows that so much goes on behind the scenes and not in a good way . Can't wait for the next one 👌👍

Thanks Crumblymal, appreciated as always. So much goes in behind the scenes even today, it's a strange old world once you dip into paddock life. Thursday and Monday for episodes 2 & 3, full of incredible stories and possibly the most politically incorrect but funniest story ever early in ep. 2 🤣
