Ladonai Ha'aretz - Haim Wasserzug

On Festivals which fall on weekdays, we sing Ladonai Ha’aretz (Psalm 24) as we carry the Torah scrolls back to the ark, following the Torah reading.
This splendid melody is understood to have been composed by Haim Wasserzug, though it doesn't appear anywhere in his magnum opus Schirei Mikdosch (and there are some other melodies for Psalm 24 there). I am personally very familiar with this setting, as it is used in both orthodox synagogues in Birmingham: Central and Singers Hill. Most other UK congregations defer to Mombach's composition. It is written in ABCC form with a dramatic opening, a lighter section beginning "He shall receive blessing" in duple time with some rather unusual harmony, and a dancelike theme for the final verses "O gates, lift up your heads!"

I am delighted to have stumbled on this channel. So much of the Shule music of my childhood is in my head, having been heard and sung only on Shabbat, but not recorded. I am so happy to have something recorded that I can play to my children so they too can hear the beautiful melodies I grew up with.
