At this point of the tour I don't think Gaga had a track with only back up vocals. Telephone was recently released. Notice that she had to cue people in the back (the audio technicians) to put in a track. Though if you listen, you can hear Gaga's live voice break through the tracks recording.

An insider recently said that there are three tracks for every song on her tours. A Track - Very minimal and quiet backing vocals. (If her voice is especially healthy that night) B Track - Typical backing vocals on chorus etc. (This is the track she uses most, apart from JWT that was mostly track A) C Track - “Lip-sync track” Most of the vocals from the studio version, usually unused vocal takes from the tracks recording sessions. (This is rarely used, unless she is very sick) They most likely pressed the wrong track, unless there weren’t a track yet like you suggested.

I'll tell you a thing. She's not a liar. All of her performances are lives, and she works a lot for this. (Remember when she had to relax to continue Bad romance in New Zealand). I was there and maybe there was technical problems. But she wasn't lip sincing AT ALL. She didn't even move her lips.

@bamboozle1 Errm, that's because this was the first ever performance of this song on tour. Much of her set + costumes etc had not arrived and the show did not look how she had planned it to. There was a technical mishap which meant the music was set to the wrong track, and played louder thatn the volume her mic was set at. Go watch any other video of telephone from the monster ball and you WILL she that SHE SINGS LIVE.

LOL heres the deal guys, it was the first time she sang the song live, she was kicking ass at dancing, and you know what sometimes we wanna hear an artist lipsync because theres no worry of a vocal mess up and we can just sit back and enjoy the performance. One of the things that I love about GaGa is that she's more than just a singer; she's a dancer, choreographer, and artist. It wouldn't surprise me to hear that she played a recording over singing in favor of dancing in some songs, especially on a song featuring Beyonce, who isn't a part of her tour to sing the song with her.

The album version of the song was being played because there was a problem with the version without the vocals. this was the first time that she performed this version of the show and there were many things going wrong, watch any other video of her performing live and you will see that she does not lipsync.

her tour today she did the same dance sequence and sang live. so there must have been some sort of teqnical difficulty becuase this was the opening night. but if you watch closely she can tell her mic is off so she doesn't even move her mouth. so...not lip syncing. Just turning it into a dance break.

She's definitely not lip syncing as she has said numerous times in the past she will never ever lip sync. It's kind of her mission statement when it comes to performing. Look it up.

she doesn't lip sync, she does, however sing over track for the songs with heavy dance routines because it is next to impossible to dance this intensively and sing well at the same time because of your breathing. most of the time she sings the verses and sings over the chorus track. here, however was the FIRST performance she did of telephone and obviously the sound mixing is off because the track is too loud. when i went to go see her a couple of nights later, she was definitely singing live.

@@terryking3214 the new show was put together in just 4 weeks because Gaga didn't like the original version of the Monster Ball, apparently she was still putting finishing touches on the show 30 mins before the doors opened to the public, there where problems with the lighting and sound, lengthy delays caused by audio and video problems saw the show run over its allotted finish time by 30 mins and the fill in the gaps where Gaga and her team tried to fix problems interludes had to be played multiple times

at 3:11 you can hear her singing the harmony really loud. Something must have been wrong because you can't hear her live voice at all and she knew it and was trying to work with it by singing harmony so she wasn't accused of lip syncing. i know she's singing live. but she should let the playback track go louder than her mic. and if the choreography is the problem she must practice her singing dancing more often, 'till she gets perfection and that technique which is not that difficult, the problem is that she's always working and never takes time to herself. and the "free time" i know she tries to find good performing techniques, but this matter should be in the top of her to-do list. I LOVEE YOU GAGA!
