Our jr high chorus sang this at dear old Wolcottville (former Johnson Township High School, built sometime between 1900 and 1930, before school consolidation killed small towns all across our state and nation). The song is beautiful, and reflects a time when this country had a clear identity and close friends often didn't even know or care about each other's political affiliations.

I was a freshman in choir coming back from a trip to Red River, New Mexico, and the older choir members sang this song A cappella in the bus driving back. It was one of the most beautiful moments I remember.
