The Iron Curtain was keeping people and the economy in shackles, but music is something that can't be stopped. Polish rock was blooming in the eighties, especially since times were so difficult. This song refers to the communist government instituting martial law in Poland and the related crisis. The song is addressed to some girl, suggesting she could be his "crisis fiancée," but instead, she chose to live (probably emigrated or ran away from Poland) in some rich country in the West, and now she only wishes him Merry Christmas "on a postcard from who knows where." Actually, I don't think I've ever seen the video before, but it makes so much sense. The girl is shopping in some big supermarket, full of products, while at that time there was literally nothing in Poland-all goods were rationed, and people had ration cards for food and other items. Still, you often couldn't buy anything; the shelves in stores were literally empty. The only product that was usually available was vinegar. 😂 People had to wait half a day in queues to buy some basic products.
