Wow! Ladybeard was one of my first introduction to the Jpop rabbit hole which led me to Atarashi Gakko and Band Maid. It has come full circle.

Hi Joel, I have said before that I don't comment much on your videos. However, I really appreciate the diversity of your co-hosts in these video series. You seem to be able to keep upping your game, your Road Dogs and Rock Dogs videos have become so engaging. The individuals you host are a story in their own right and allow me to dive into music that I am unaware of, or as in Ladybeard's case, I am aware of, but have avoided. After seeing Ladybeard on your channel and appreciating how intelligent and articulate he is, I have had a look at a couple of his videos and, to my surprise, liked them. I'm not quite sure that I understand his schtick completely, but it looks very cool and he now has me on board for the ride. Ladybeard is what I love about KZbin and experiencing new music. You just don't know what you need in your life until you find it. Joel, you have shown me another unique artist that I'm sure I will enjoy for as long as this crazy ride lasts. I love it.

Every fiber of my power pop bar band pre grunge Seattle band crew members says I should NOT be hooked on this crew BUT I am.

Oh yeah it seems they are killing it with this song now, it suddenly became mainstream after it had been released some time ago. I heard it suddenly got popular on tiktok and it's all over the place, they even performed this in this year's kohaku, like ADO also did. There is also another two pop artists that I like that made it there this year. It is not rock, not what I usually lilke but they are fun. Are you familiar with ano or YOASOBI? You could check _ano - Chu, tayousei._ It is a pop act, but man I love her attitude. Some of this japanese pop artist must have been punk people in another timeline xD

Otona Blue was huge, but 88Rising has more to do with it in the bigger scheme of things. Even though they did win the Grand Prize for Tiktok for views (3.1Bn), they have been grinding globally. In fact, you can argue that they-- outside of possibly XG-- were the most prolific performers from Japan domestically and internationally in 2023. Btw, I think Joel might also like Chanmina as well for other J-Pop artists.

I saw Ladybeard once waiting in line for Babymetal @ Makuhari 2014 . Didn’t know who he was then until a year or two later. I’m still waiting for Band-Maid Matchless Gum

If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend watching AJ Hartley's video from 3 years ago, long before AG and OB were a thing, where he does a very deep dive into the lyrics and choreography of Otana Blue (it's the Thuma performance), and offers a lot of analysis on AG themselves. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXale4GHpZ2Imbcsi=ckRop8GwSxXcjHe1 He did a follow up review last year for their The First Take performance, which was also very insightful and more about the performance itself, plus how the group has developed and meshes so well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o17XYo2Oar-KqrMsi=oOMyRQmE6W6hqNJU I really think that when you introduce AG and Otana Blue to others on your show, you should use The First Take performance, since it shows more of their personality. Regardless, thanks for sharing your AG fandom with everyone!

Interesting take Ladybeard has on the cultural influence on this song/reaction. Japan's Golden Age? Maybe similar, but different, to the US Golden Age of the '50's?

I thought you planned the "ONE TAKE" version! But, I was wrong, the ONE TAKE was for Su and Moa. Anyhow, I like the "ONE TAKE" more, but I know you like the Volvo. So, why not? :)

Just read your comment section for good info on the artists you feature. Their fans won't lead you astray. The info will be accurate. 😀

Not an Expert is a major understatement. They will be performing at Coachella this year, which is by invite only!!! Their US tour was pretty much a sell-out. Their interviews were great Here in the west we want skilled entertainers that can sing without electronic and actually dance, not just strut on stage in a thong. Right now that means Japan and Korea.

I watched a couple of fancams before and it's pretty obvious that they use electronics on their voices though (not a ton). Not saying it makes it bad, I actually am more lenient in their case since they are also dancing like crazy and I know they can sing pretty well, but there is a lot of vocal effects on them on the studio tracks and they have some form of pitch-correction on at least some of the things I have seen live (that doesn't mean they always use it). I still enjoy them though, I generally don't like a lot of the pop-style music and just danceacts in general but Atarashii Gakko works relatively well for me. I probably wouldn't casually listen to their music outside of reactions, but I would buy a live blu-ray in a heartbeat.

They're really good dancers but if I'm going with straight up JPop kinda stuff, I'm going with Dempagumi, Inc.

Interesting guy Ladybeard. Schooled in academic thinking somehow. Wonder how? I also tried to look around the edge of the window to see his Ladyfriend. But failed :)
