Wow! Dad is like "Door Dash" on steroids ❣️ I love how they hand off the prey. During one delivery, dad looked at mom to get approval. During the other, he hesitated and made sure everything was okay before he took off again. At one he looked straight into her eyes. And, sometimes it looked like they kissed. Very tender and loving! He's terrific at his job!💕🦉 He needs to be! 2 hatched and 4 to go!! Lots of mouths to feed! TYLH! 😻 Be blessed❣️

The owls are just gorgeous. Are they on a hilltop or do they just burrow into flat ground? I'd be scared for their safety on the ground. This should be a beautiful pair to watch. Thanks, LH, for this nest, too!

Hi Mary - the owls nest on the ground. The tundra is completely flat and there are no trees or bushes or hills. The chicks will be camouflaged pretty well as they get older when Mom has to leave for short periods of time so they should be relatively safe.

What does an owl feed it's owlets, regurgitated stomach contents?

Hi Christal - no the owls feed prey to the owlets just like other raptors do. They do not regurgitate food - they rip the prey into small pieces and feed it to their offspring.

She is doing a series of crop drops. She is moving food from her crop to her stomach. The crop is a storage pouch for food located just below the esophagus - when a raptor eats too much this pouch will expand and hold a large quantity of food. In order to access it - they will do what is called a crop drop to move it down to be digested! We see eagles do this constantly.
