Lots of unexplained happenings in nature at nest time. I'm happy that Beau showed that his family means so much to him and Gabby and he was ready to help with Incubating chores. This stuff is not common with BE's but i noticed last yr that Osprey's had trouble with keeping Parents on nest and food coming to nest even with hatchlings around-- also more than enough bonking by eldest Chick was evident in the Captiva Nest driving the younger chick to eventually perishing from combo of lack of Parent brought food. and malreatment by oldest chick.

I'm wondering if Gabby, after the trauma of losing Samson and having to protect their territory alone - she went through hell - is still suffering from the imprint of that event. It's like she's reversed roles a bit, taking the male's job of protecting the territory, can'thelp herself. She's always been a bit different anyway so I'm not too surprised to see it. Beau is turning out to be such a good partner for her. Things could work out well. ❤ This is most interesting to watch, thank you Lady Hawk!

I was watching from around 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. the day she returned. There were intruders flying overhead, and during that time Beau alerted twice, He was constantly scanning the skies all around. Later, I rewound and watched Gabby's arrival. It was also clear that Gabby was fully protecting the nest when she arrived back on the nest tree. She and Beau begin alerting very strongly. Also, I saw something I'd never seen her do before. She had her feathers puffed up in such a way to make herself look larger, but it was not a rouse. The look was more smooth than a rouse. It looked like it was her natural size, but she was puffing herself larger. She had to stay up above Beau for quite some time before it was safe for her to come down and begin incubating. This explains both her coming back to the nest bloodied as well as her coming back with her talons and feathers directly under her beak muddy. She is fighting for her nest and the eggs. Anyone who watched Gabby incubating the eggs last year that were not Beau's and without his help sees that she is a devoted Mama bird. That has not changed a bit.

@@loridori7862 No problem. I was watching when I should have been sleeping. I was very concerned for her and feared that she would go the way of Harriet. It is clear to me that Harriet and the very aggressive intruder (that came before F23) on SWFL must have fought. The last time we saw Harriet was when she was alerting and then flying out to protect the nest. I am fully sure that Gabby is doing everything she can to keep that nest safe. It's great that they have four cameras, but we still really don't see the entire scene that the eagles are going through.

@ I feel the same. I have followed Gabby and Samson for many years and was heartbroken for her when Samson disappeared. I was always rooting for Beau. They have a strong bond. I have observed that a change of partner brings a change of dynamics and we humanize this change as being something is wrong. The dynamics of M and F23 is different to that of M and Harriet. So, at this stage, I’m not seeing Gabby’s behavior as anything other than Gabby and Beau being eagles. I am not an expert just an observer ❤️🦅🦅🥚🥚🇦🇺

I really don’t think she likes Beau anymore. He’s trying so hard doing double duty, bringing her gifts and making restorations but she doesn’t react to anything. There is no interaction or affection between them. She just seems so depressed and like she gave up she’s just doing the absolute minimum of her duty. So so sad to watch. I’m wondering if Beau will be raising the babies alone And if they’re still OK.

Dear Lady Hawk can you share any insight as to what might be happening with Gabby? It just doesn't seem normal for a female bald eagle to have this disconnect or whatever it seems she's feeling for these eggs. I'm so confused and worried what happens when they hatch. I'm worried she's going to feel that same disconnect from the chicks?? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

@janetlowe64539 сағат бұрын
That's why I'm asking. Hopefully someone can answer. Is there still something going on with Gabby? It's like she has a disconnect from these eggs. It should be instinctual for these birds for the moms to want to incubate more than the dad. Thank God this dad has stepped up for these eggs. I don't know what's going to happen but I'm so worried for the eggs

Did you read Lady Hawk's description? There have been a lot of intruders in the area, and once Gabby came back with injuries, obviously involved in a fight. In fact, with this return an intruder was flying over the nest as Gabby returned. After Gabby returned yesterday at 11:00 in the morning she stayed on the nest till the next morning. Beau relieved her, but she came back just a couple of hours later. Please learn the facts before you start making judgments.

Gabby's repeated absent behaviour during incubation is very uncommon and has very rarely ever been seen. This is just not how female nesting Bald Eagles behave, and any biologist would tell you the same. It could be a neurological issue, a hormonal issue, or as an anomaly just this particular eagles personality, as many have attested that she's always been this way. There's been a made up narrative created that every time she does this she's out battling intruders. It's quite comical at this point, as there's only been a couple intruders briefly seen during this whole time, and Beau doing the majority of the incubating has been left primarily undisturbed. There's no female eagle that's going to be repeatedly gone for 28 hours without stopping back to the nest at all. The wacky thing is If you offer a different possibility and present an alternative logical opinion on the forum, some over their get consumed with emotion, treating you like an enemy and wanting to cancel you (Marxism). Somehow they feel that your an enemy to the eagle and they themselves are the eagles reputation protector. Reality check.. you're not doing a thing to help the eagle, and the eagle does not care at all what you think. An eagle biologist who would give you an honest assessment would ignore your emotions and just tell you the truth.... this is totally abnormal behavior for a female nesting Bald Eagle.
@vonroe69107 сағат бұрын
Having said that I don't blame Gabby at all, as she's a wild Bald Eagle. I love her just as much as I love all the other eagles.🙂

@@dreadlittlewings5268 Thanks, and I agree there's should be a place to exchange opinions and ideas in a respectable way, where emotionally charged, drama laden anthropomorphisim is'nt encouraged. Initially on the forum , I humbly stated some other possibilities and was heavily criticised for it.
