As a monotheist interested in non-monotheist traditions, I fully agree with your vision ... Religious institutions have hijacked many things and provoked disasters within the said religions, losing the precious metaphorical reading of the texts. Now one has to do this work alone or with like minded people.

On the last day of a class on Wicca that I was taking, we were each asked to contribute something for a blessing of the way ritual. Since I've been studying the different Gods and Goddesses and had a strong connection to Thor, I contributed a Thor invocation. The next morning after the ritual I was awoken by loud thunder and lighting in front of my bedroom window. Figuring that my invocation went better then I thought I took that as an opportunity to work with Thor and from that work I learned how to manifest my strength like you did.

Maria, this was absolutely beautiful and I am impressed with how much you share of yourself to your audience. It takes great courage to do so and I feel honored and thankful you are a part of my life. I am actually a bit shaken and a bit lifted, but mostly sorrowful to know that I did not hold on to my faith in the wisdom of my people and my gods. I have much to contemplate.

Maria I have to thank you for all your videos and your proper analysis of the Germanic and Norse Myths. As I become more of a follower of this old pagan faith, your videos truly inspire me. This one in particular made me so happy that I shed a few tears of joy. Your dream you had in York is very inspirational, as I too have had very insightful and very mythic dreams that have drove me even further into this faith and farther from my christian faith I was once raised on. This really truly speaks to me so much more and with your analytic process of breaking down the myths it makes them so much more insightful and have a greater spiritual impact on me. Nochmals vielen Dank und Hagel Odin!

We can still through Maria’s dreams touch this treasure of our common heritage. Knowing that the Blót’s fire still burns with such warmth gives us hope that our own Ragnarök can be avoided with creativity and engagement. Congratulations Maria for a wonderful lecture. “The Thundergod´s Maze - Hidden Knowledge in Old Norse Myths pt. 21” was a poetic tour of a living tradition.

I am so glad I found you, or more specifically, your channel and videos! You are a gem. I have been binge watching this series for several days now and with each video I more greatly appreciate your knack for communicating information while holding the viewer's rapt attention and interest. Your explanation of the metaphorical significance of characters , places and occurrences in the myths have a genuine ring of *rightness* to them, at least subjectively to *my* mind. Thank you. One thought on learning to let go of the ego and entrenched perceptions. I'm reminded of the adage, "To a hammer, everything looks like a nail" I suppose the challenge then is to realize that even a hammer can be so much more.

What a fantastic revelation of Thor! I kept listening even though at one point I got frightened and thought I'd have to watch the rest after my husband got home. lol! I want to watch all of your videos and hope to connect with you on some of my questions. I'm studying to write a book about a certain family in the 830-60s. I read and read, but from the few dreams I've had come my most burning questions.

incredible, i enjoyed hearing about your dream, not long ago i had a dream i was in a temple and saw 3 statues before me Odin, Thor, and Freyr, i knelt and looked up and said 'odin' in my mind. i heard a reply 'yes' and i turned to face an elderly man wearing a wide hat sitting nearby, i asked if this was real if the gods were here, he smiled and nodded once. i felt it was odin, it was like i just knew. i drew this when i woke, i couldnt stop thinking about it for days after it really touched me

I remember a Sikh man lecturing that many seekers have the misconception that kundalini is energy. He translated it as "uncoiling". I gather that Kundalini Shakti means something like "the yoga of uncoiling the energy". My dearest friend worked very diligently to "raise the kundalini" even though he must have known that he was misusing the phrase. Thank you so much for sharing about this Thor and Freya energy experience. The revelation that thought is electricity and the assertion that men also have a feminine that must be brought into balance. Maybe I can get my chores done without a temper tantrum? I have this notion that I need some quiet to think things through but I am constantly interrupted. Like Thor interrupting his teachers I guess?

Thank you very much for the whole cycle of videos, and for this series in particular. I am a refugee from Ukraine, currently in Iceland. I am a non-binary person. I used to be an Orthodox believer - now I'm an atheist. I came to accept my non-binary identity through a long journey of change. I was in a church marriage from the beginning and was abused there. I got out of this marriage at the cost of having to raise two children by myself. I became a feminist, I stopped believing in God. But I wanted to know more about myself and I was in dire need of strength and protection. So I became my own strength and protection. I briefly felt the fullness of life and happiness. But the war started and I was forced to drop everything and run away saving the children. Eventually I ended up in Iceland. Everything here was foreign to me, except for nature, which acted on me like a magnet. I started photographing a lot of landscapes, even though I had never done it before. And I began to study culture, because without it I was in despair, I needed to fall in love with this new society as soon as possible, force myself to survive. I treated the Norse gods as a toy that could cheer me up, I liked the idea that the gods might not be perfect. I liked Loki because he turned his life into a joke and because he's non-binary like me. Tell me, were there any cross-dressers, non-binary or transgender people who transformed from female to male in those days?

Thanks for a deep and thoughtful exploration of this mythology. The more I explore this topic, the more I see how really sophisticated it is. I think the Norse gods are closer to humans than any other mythology. They describe the Greek gods as having human traits, but those traits are mostly vain and selfish, but the Norse deities have real human imperfections and attitudes. And as you so well point out, they also represent real forces and experiences in human life that we have to deal with.

Your books draws a great picture of men as protectors and food for thought of what I could have done for my children if I had a man for protection and model for my son. We were left on our own and suffered many abuses and could not reach our potential. Oh the women of Europe now are suffering so deeply and it will take mens help to bring back balance against outside sources.

@vekunde I think that the best description of Loki, explaining his essential function, was given by the skald Thiodolfr of Hvinir in the year 900, the poem Haustlöng, where Loki is called Sagna Hraerir in a kenning: "The Mover of the Stories". He creates conflicts, and that is always what spurs all good stories, for better and for worse... :)

Best. Dream. Ever. And I thought that mine were intense! The way in which your dream overlaps with other mytholgies is interesting, the release of the serpentine energy is reminiscent of Cu Chulainn, and other elements of the dream resonate with some of the ancient Egyptian notions of the soul (Ka - the double, Ba - heart-soul, Khaibit - shadow, Sekhem - power, Ren - name).

Maybe you were involved in the release of an ancient spirit, trapped in York. The awkwardness of the incident when they were drawn to you was necessary for the accumulation of energies that the spirit could ride into the next realm or form as it was released. Either way, great story, I can't wait to learn more😉

In this old video you mention electric energy and it's connection to mind but shortly after mentioned the barrier between the known and unknown. Interestingly the combination of these concepts along with the picture of a recommended video on the side column being of that common old alchemy picture where a guy is poking his head through the veil of the firmament to see the other side... Some alchemists seem to use the word chaos for electricity. Without a common connection or ground reference to compare to, a voltage potential measurement will show a floating random reading that you could describe as chaotic. Also the human mind normally works by comparison. This alignment of concepts has triggered a round of contemplation that's been pulling at me for some time since.

The goddess lives, Frøya lives! Tor lives! Frøya may be crying but she is alive. She is alive in the heart of Maria and clearly in hearts of many others. It is a miracle. The fire and sword’s of Håkon Adalsteinsfostre (Haakon the Good), Olaf Tryggvasen, and Olaf Haraldsson, and a thousand years of oppression did not destroy the Nordisk religion.

Loki, I believe, is hardly a mischievous trickster but rather a reflection of our unconscious, perhaps sub-conscious, mind telling us we have chosen unwisely. However, our ego must be in control and tells us, in error, that Loki is out to get us. This is a misperception and the "poisonous" anger which follows due to the idea of being duped or having had something taken from us can only be resolved then by the feminine guidance of Loki's wife, Sygin.

In regards to your feminist interpretation, I have considered in the past what the psychological impact might be if 1/2 the population (males) are stronger than you and potentially have an unwanted interest. But have you considered how the de facto presumption of 'men as trolls' affects men? It can justify their manipulation as a pre-emptive defence, there are no shortgage of men living in gender-chains or carrying the burden of princess-towers on their shoulders!

About twenty years ago, i discovered that God had done something to me, that made me like others within the bible, then about ten years after that, i discovered there was something familiar with the tree of life when i cam across that, then with the story the exorcist. It wasnt untill i was thirty seven when i discovered Joseph Smith, and how my own life mirrored his, and after that not untill now have i found anything new, in your storys i discovered more. It will take me some time to figure out why, and what the connection is between all the storys. I have started watching your stuff with this set of videos, starting with number three, and not ever have heard of them before. If i say things i know to be true before you say them, then thats my life, its just how it is. If you like, you can come check my browsing history, to prove the order i viewed your videos.

God bless you David R, but we are all priests and prophets. what you experience is not unique, and the sooner you can abolish notions of uniqueness the sooner you will realize that the divine is the architect of all that is good, NOT THE HUMAN VESSEL THAT TAKES CREDIT. This gnosis alone can explain synchronicity, and not any virtues doctrine, dogma, or exposition, can be attributed to your own enlightenment. Remember that even the biblical patriarchs, and the great odin himself, were not all knowing, therefore any criticism you perceive should be taken as par for the course. One is either tapped in, or not, we don't take credit for what HBO broadcasts on our TVs and we don't take credit for what is simply true.

I don't think either are the points she was making. My understanding was she weeped because the dangers of men had led it to become almost automatic habit to not trust them. A male could offer protection therefore allowing you space to follow the sorts of things Freya represents, but past sufferings in some examples has led people not to trust in the protection that might be possible...therefore meaning they suffer again by denying themselves space for the more important considerations. It is like locking yourself away in a shell will keep you safe from outside attacks but you also forfeit all that could be gained from the outside. I think she was saying Freya always weeps because a lot of what could be gained is lost.

I didn't take notes, but I have watched about six of your videos, or so, and it seemed to me like "golden, shining, bright" was given as the translation for a name or a thing or a concept in every one. I'm just starting to notice it, and thinking it is odd.
@LadyoftheLabyrinth7 жыл бұрын
Has it occurred to you that Edda poetry may be describing the dísir and their realms as "golden, shining and bright" most of the time? They may have had more words for the same than the modern English language does presently, so where there may have been a variety of twelve different words meaning some aspect of golden, shining and bright, I end up using these three common English words, although sometimesd I vary with "gold-red" or "dazzling" or "light" too. Indeed, the focus on golden, shining and bright entities and realms is prominent in the Elder Edda and often refers to the Sun goddess or any of her avatars, or to the valkyriur, the norns, and to the maiden of the golden, bright and shining realm that is hidden the underworld. Edda poetry is, as I have argued and written extensively about, inspired by ancient spiritual mysteries where finding the "light" while in darkness is the great goal and the peak of human experience.
