It’s a shame that we torture ourselves by not liking bits of us. We are fabulous machines and society, like a mean girl, gets us to spend money by saying none of us are good enough. You make fabulous confections and you’re a beautiful woman ( as my husband often tells me), I just wish you felt it without hiding a part of you. Love your dresses and everything else xxx

I totally agree with Hatty. You really are beautiful. You are so nicely proportioned and tall ( I'm 5'2" and short waisted so I'm very jealous), it's a shame that you don't like your arms but I get it. As for the sleeves being "too long", I'm sure there were people in the past who used longer sleeves for the same reason.

you had the best costumes at that festival, no question (also your friend's yellow dress was excellent)

I am so glad that I'm not the only one finishing sewing in the car on the way or in the hotel the night before. LOL All of your dresses for the weekend were very lovely and I liked all the shots of your friends, dining companions etc.

Please know that you make beautiful things and that you are literally your own worse critic. Everyone is AMAZED by your skill and how good your creations look on you. Period!

I saw your other video from the Victorian weekend before this & it's nice to see how you constructed the evening bodice for your velvet ribbon dress! You looked stunning in all your gowns by the way.

Beautiful Bodice. Last minute sewing: I was on my hands and knees finishing the hem on a bridal gown. Literally finished to the opening cords of the bridal march. Whewwww.

as soon as I saw your "maybe" laces I squeed. I've used a version of the more pricey one myself on a project just this last winter.

Ok, I agree with Hatty, don’t be concerned about your arms. But since you are - lol, as we all are-I love your solution! Let’s be real, don’t you think some girl decades ago felt the same way about her arms, and made the sleeves just a bit longer?? Women are women, and we solve problems! Gorgeous dress. Just ridiculous. And I bet the actors in your plays are always just staggered by your sewing between scenes! Just fyi, you are a huge encouragement to me in my sewing journey. Thank you so much!

I love the vest/bodice that you are wearing in the video. I always appreciate how well you dress!

I love how it came out! I agree with your decision about the lace. If you still feel uncomfortable about sleeve length, maybe some very lightweight fluffy lace around the bottom would be nice?

Thank you! I think in the end, I was quite happy with the sleeve length, but when I have time, I definitely want to add the lace to the neckline!

I totally agree with the sleeve length thing. I dont like my upper arms either. You are making a dress to be worn by you, you put those sleeve hems wherever you want them! 😉

The white and red sleeves are so much nicer than the pinky-red ones. Good call!

Beautiful! And I feel you on the time crunch stress. I am sewing a pair of regency stays while watching your video and will also need to make the actual dress for an event in a few days. Sewing on a stressful time limit certainly is an experience lol

Too late for this, but if you're the one driving, and your buddy sews, I would have set them to work on the bodice! LOL

I debated about it, but she had brought her own hand sewing to do (though she didn't wind up doing that either!)

So glad to see more of my favourite one of your dresses, and the evening bodice is so freaking pretty! with a bodice like that, how hard would it be to have interchangeable stomacher parts? Because it would be cool if you could have a few options there to get more variety as well.
@LadyRebeccaFashions2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! With the way I sewed it in, it would be pretty difficult. They didn't really do different pieces like that, like they did in the 18th c, probably at least partially because they sewed things in place instead of pinning them!

I keep having to remind myself that your corset is skin toned and that you are wearing something on the bottom. Lol.

Lovely work! And in solidarity: I too am uncomfortable with the appearance of my arms. They chonky. However, as someone who has now spent hundreds of hours watching your arms onscreen, allow me to assure you: you have completely ordinary and unremarkable human arms. They attract no glances, gazes, or close examinations. (I find that reminding myself of how totally boring my arms and legs are helps me stop feeling so very self conscious. I even wear shorts now occasionally--it's been a real mental challenge)
@therewillbecatswithgwenhwyfar2 жыл бұрын
I cannot accept the idea that women were not ever self-conscious about the size of their arms historically. I know fashion was very different but clearly people still cared about how they looked and I can’t imagine we would suddenly have become sensitive to our upper arms but it was never a thing. Maybe there’s no documentation of my hypothesis, but I think there had to be others who wore their sleeves a little longer than others.

I was so ready to see the dark video message to yourself! 😂
@kathyjohnson20432 жыл бұрын
I think sleeve length would probably have been different in different communities, countries, and religious groups. After all, not everyone dressed like the fashion plates, no more than everyone adopts every fashion fad today. I have early pictures of my ancestors who are clearly not in the fashions of the time but were dressed similar to other pictures I have seen of their friends and family from the same time
