This breaks my heart. I wish they showed more of Daemon and Laena, they were quite an “peaceful” couple in books. Not to mention they both get along with Rhaenyra rather too well.

My one regret of House of Dragon is that we missed out on so much in the 10 year time jump with Leanor, Laena and Harwin Strong. We should have had more of them.

I like how he loved her in the books, killed her promised husband in a duel, treated her the best of all his wives, carried her to her dragon so she can ride one last time. But instead in the show he gives her a backhand compliment, marries her while visibly pinning for rhaenyra to the point she knows it, keeps her in pentos isolated , ignores his kids and they have her kill herslef cause “shes a strong woman” bull

Well said. They are too dumb, the show writers. They think that showing Daemon genuinely loved Laena will take something away from the Daemon - Rhaenyra relationship. It definitely wasn't a 'marriage unravelling'. And she died in Driftmark with her family, even Rhaenyra, around her. He didn't do that to her. Why would Vhagar be on Driftmark if she had died all the way so far away in Pentos? I'd refer to a brilliant in canon fanfic about Laena 'The Lady and the Guest'

@@hafsahassan394 This is exactly what happened!! They can't even show Daemon being affectionate with his own daughters and the sick part is the fact that the fans eat this shit up. They get beside themselves when people merely suggest that Daemon doesn't truly value Rhaenyra's oldest three but are quiet when Rhaena and Baela are outright ignored. To show us that Daemon married Laena and was stress free without the toxicity and drama during this time is too much. I love both Daemon and Rhaenyra to death as characters but as a relationship they are a hot ass mess and what they have is nothing to envy. Best ship on that show now that Rhaenys is dead is Jace and Baela. It's a shame that we can't get adequate screentime for them either.

Laena was the chance for a different life: travelling the world, having children, living a quiet life. That's what he loved about her the most. When she died, he realized peace was not his path, and embraced the fire until he was consumed by it

He really genuinely loved her. They may not have married because they fell in love at first sight, but she was his happiness. She was best friends with Rhaenyra, yet Daemon was ever faithful to her, treated her with respect and kindness, and loved both his daughters with her. He tried so hard to save her, for Westerosi standards. Flying a maester on Caraxes for her. Then he stayed vigil over her body for days, grieving. He was probably completely lost without her.

He might have been at first, but he seemed like to give up on Viserys and Rhaenyra for this period of life (first three years of their marriage anyway) and found his happiness with Laena. Consider this is the only part in adult Daemon's life where he's COMPLETELY different - loving husband, father, faithful, free from politics, not killing, whoring, causing chaos or chasing after his niece. But he was 11-12 years older than her, he probably didn't expect to outlive her, so when she died he just felt lost.

Daemon and Laena - she was his true love, he became more stable, level headed and mature...you can see it...he chose her, and he mourned her...Rhaenyra was more of a strategical choise (although with some passion too), Laena was from love....

Truly! Laena was his happiness. It is how it happens in real life. Daemon always wanted a Valyrian bride, Targaryen exceptionalism. he started going rogue when he was wed to non Valyrian Rhae. Around the same time Rhaenyra is born. So in his mind, Rhaenyra was always supposed to be his bride (Targaryens are insane that way). But in reality he found actual happiness with the only other Valyrian dragon rider Laena Velaryon. He found Laena at a time when he was just lost - fighting hard in the Stepstones for Corlys, despairing of his brother ruining his beloved House, almost all his family that he grew up knowing dead, having given up on marrying Rhaenyra. He was disinherited and without a home. She gave him happiness, home, love and family. He became noble for her. Ran away from politics for her. She wanted to travel so he took her all around the known world, with Caraxes and Vhagar entertaining crowds all over Essos. And he was completely broken when both she and their son died. She was indeed his true love. Showing that doesn't take anything away from Daemon - Rhaenyra relationship. The latter marriage was more political and motivated by the threat of the Greens. Daemon and Rhaenyra by that time had lived different lives, were different people, and had their kids to think of. He was probably broken, furious at Vhagar being taken away by Aemond, but couldn't loose himself because he had daughters to care for. She needed him to defend her claim and her kids from the increasing power of the Greens.

good point....🤔why it happend? to invested in gaining dragons? they are dragons, it´s odd that at the 3rd it happened twice, Daenary giving birth has images of a dragon and knows it was gonna go wrong...

Dragon baby is probably the maester writing style...I doubt people birthed monsters. His first child too - He looses three children. His first was unplanned, bastard with Mysaria, but he seemed to care for a lot as he thought it was the only child he would have. But Viserys made a decision to please Otto that resulted in his death. From then on his heart permanently hardened against his brother. Then probably his lowest point in life was the death of his long awaited son with Laena, and she died few days later. This son would have been the only pure Valyrian son, whom they wanted (Rhaenys, Daemon) probably more due to Laenor-Rhaenyra's marriage debacle. and the last was Visenya. By that time Daemon must have been scared of childbirths. Alicent wished 'I hope she dies in childbirth' then, if she had it was game over for the Blacks.

The difference between daemon and viserys he cared what Happened to the mother He would of made a great king

Viserys cared what happened. As a King it was expected to put the child first. His duty as King came before her, she knew this upon marrying him. His grief was evident when he sat with his dead and mutilated wife before even considering the child. Daemon would not have made a good King. He was too selfish, blood thirsty and impulsive.

@@Dev.85 Viserys cared but he acted as a hypocrite. He could have made Rhaenyra heir without killing Aemma. He kept making Aemma pregnant, almost every year since she was only 12! - despite her being weak and loosing child after child, just to get a son. Viserys' dynasty would not have died without a son...he had Daemon, Rhaenyra, Rhaenys and her kids alive. And if he cared for duty, Viserys would not have married Alicent. He was just following his desires because a pretty young girl kept showing up in his bedroom... his Targaryen duty was to marry someone of Valyrian blood instead of dividing his House. Instead he followed his desires, and passed the bucket to his daughter Rhaenyra, forcing her to marry a Velaryon to fix his own mistakes, in doing so, making her wed the most gay man in Westeros and then give him heirs.

He really, really, genuinely loved Laena in the books. The writers just made it this way to a. make us hate Daemon more, b. time skips and c. because they think showing the real Daemon - Laena relationship takes something away from the Daemon - Rhaenyra marriage later, which it doesn't.
