a lightforce is made up of two units, a truck and a 200 series engine. in this video, Lightforce 11 would be Truck 11 and Engine 211. a taskforce is a truck and two engines. if Engine 11 was going to the same call as Lightforce 11, it would be Taskforce 11

Liam Weaver I believe Class 1 means the department is equipped to handle any type of emergency situation (search and rescue,Swift water, marine ocean rescue, high rise, hazmat, heavy rescue, etc.).

NFPA rating- A Class 1 rig is one fully equipped for structural firefighting, and is capable of carrying at least 4 firefighters, 1000GPM pump and 350 gallon tank

The National ISO (Insurance Service Organization) rates or grades fire depts across the nation... which inturn affect your individual fire insurance rates for both commercial & private property. They rate a FD's ability related to... staffing, training, water supply systems, 911 communications, record keeping, apparatus, maintenance, public education, fire prevention & code enforcement, emergency medical services, response times, capabilities of a FD to deliver (USAR, swift water/ocean rescue, air operations, confined space rescue, wildland firefighting, hazmat, marine services, etc.) as additional service, education, community outreach, etc. Obviously the best receive a Class 1 rating and the National avg is at Class 5. Remember that 70% of America's fire Departments are volunteer agencies.

It confuses me because here in the UK we get big jobs, and our appliances carry more equipment than yours but are still smaller. Sometimes I think American fire appliances are big just because people have a misconception that bigger is best and just have them for looks.

It's not just fire apparatus that are bigger here in the U.S., vehicles of all types are. But these huge appliances wouldn't fit in a lot of your narrow streets anyway.
