I like the way LAFD’s vehicles are so clean. By that I mean, free of slogans, artwork, mottos, mascots etc. The same applies to the members’ headgear. As a comparison, some aspects of FDNY can look really shambolic and unprofessional.
@cat275hp4 жыл бұрын
I can't believe how clean & shiny those trucks are! We always washed & waxed our trucks, but they would get dirty, dents, dings, and scratched up very fast! I guess the narrow pot-hole urban streets of the north-east really take their toll on the apparatus? We did get a lot of jobs too!

Thats what happens when theres 0 salt on the roads in the winter and hardly any rain! They get some serious longevity out of rigs out there.
@dewman63794 жыл бұрын
Ya these trucks that stay in the city usually stay really nice but if you would get a close up look at the type 3 engines that we use for wildland firefighting those things get lots of dents and scratches

I spent a week with the LAFD a few years back. I was under the trucks with a brush along with the whole shift. Polishing a rig was a constant job.
@davidraya87604 жыл бұрын
@@hihfty I'm retired LAFD you are incorrect.... all engineers, apparatus operators and firefighters on Rescues and Staff Assistants take pride in their rigs. There safety checks every morning, cleaned daily major weekly checks and annual checks. I should also state we have two fire department auto shops one downtown and one in the San Fernando Valley and they do an outstanding job keeping the fleet first rate. Los Angeles County runs similar to us.
@hihfty4 жыл бұрын
@@davidraya8760 Which is the absolute bare minimum that any department with pride does to there rigs. We all wax and maintain our fleets. But Its not even up for discussion that road salt in the north east states absolutely wreak havoc on rig maintenance and paint repair. In Boston during the winter after every call the truck has to be hosed off because the salt build up is so bad. Trucks in the rust belt states simply do not last or look as good as trucks in California.

I simply do not understand why LA City does not have pre-piped water pipes on their ladders. The manufacturing process allows for the pre-piped aerials that are not in the way when doing a rescue. BUT the 10 minutes it takes to set up master streams at an out of control fire is simply ridiculous. The fire fighters deserve the best equipment, the fire chief and city leaders need to fix this issue.
@bradleypryor55864 жыл бұрын
Question... Why are the ladder pipes not fixed? Is there an advantage that I'm not aware of? My department and departments around always have fixed ladder pipes as opposed to portable pipes.

Is there a reason the 2 trucks their setting up for master stream ops around the 3:00 mark are short jacked off the passenger side?

You could short jack on the side opposite to the fire building. I don't why they did because they had plenty of room to extend them. It's not like they setup the Aerial pipe that fast.
