I liked this video, so thanks for posting. I spent several years as a firefighter, and before I left, I was an Engineer. I also tried my hand at police work for a few years, and I became an FTO. Both occupations will test your metal and leave you with a few scars, both physical and psychological. I've been knifed, burned, assaulted, bitten a few times, and more. I administered mouth-to-mouth without any protection more times than I can remember. Subjects have vomited on me so often that I seldom went a week without an event. I was exposed to crowded smoke-filled nightclubs and worked on large brush/forestry fires for days on end. I fought and trained on several types of fire classifications, to include aviation fuels, explosive compounds, chemicals, wildland, and structures. For me, the most exciting part of the job was vehicle accidents. No two events were the same, and the methods of extrication of victims were always challenging. It tested your creativity and physical and mental acuity. In the cop-shop, I learned so much about human nature that it has served me well throughout my life. Now that I'm in my late 60's, I can say that it made me a better person in many ways. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

Bone drill, nice. The official terminology is Intraoscular, where as an IV is Intravenous. If you are getting medicine intraoscularly, the drill itself it hurts like hell, but the pain of the drill is actually nothing compared to the pain when the medic starts pushing meds through. The pain of the meds going in hurts way more and many patients go unconscious because of the pain level.

@@Moose6340 Yes, but at least at my ambulance company we don’t carry those. You don’t want to risk breaking the sternum which is very dangerous to the patient as it can cause pulmonary issues. That said, it is completely within a Paramedic’s scope of practice so I’m sure there are ambulance companies out there that use them. Another thing to consider is that IO’s are often really only done when doing CPR as it is way easier to do an IO on a patient that is shaking than an IV. Break that down, 11-14 ems runs a day per bus and under 9 runs a day between the 3 fire rigs. Not sure where the 30,000+ came from as the lafd website doesn't show that statistic. Mind you, there's a few FDNY companies running over 7,000 runs a year. That's per rig....not one firehouse, those stats are just for individual companies. A slow fdny company does 3400 runs. Hi to all of the emergency services over the pond from lil ol me to you.Cant dispute how hectic your working days can be .....it seems pretty insane at times ...how the hell you do it nobody knows but a large percentage of your 911 calls appear to be of a medical emergency response and occasionally you do get to fight real fires which is possibly the biggest reason you signed up!!!!.Over here in the UK your probably aware of our firefighters are increasingly being called out more often than not also to medical emergencies especially in rural / agricultural areas of the UK!!!!!.... However this is testament to you wonderful and highly trained professional emergency service personnel educating the public on FIRE PREVENTION and it SHOWS hence the decrease in genuine fire call outs including special services for example ROAD/ HIGHWAY TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS AND OTHER SPECIALIST CALL OUTS TO MANY TO NAME WITHIN THE VAST COMMUNITIES YOU SERVE AND PROTECT AND ARE ONLY A 911 CALL AWAY!!!.I Live in a relatively agricultural county ( LINCOLNSHIRE UK) And our brave firefighters like yourselves are on call 24/7 whilst on duty never knowing what the next call may be.Its becoming increasingly more common in the UK to have firefighters and their appliences to attend a medical emergency until paramedics/ volunteer responders and doctors to respond and either assist or take over from the firefighters leaving them free to head back to their station/ firehouse awaiting for the next 911/999 call.I find your posts fascinating on KZbin and other social media sites so please keep up the GOOD WORK....ITS BEEN A PLEASURE TO SEND THIS POST TO ALL OF YOU....... Most inner city fire stations are very busy with a variety of calls. The "busiest fire station in the US" is debatable. This station has multiple companies. I know of single-company stations that roll almost continuously. FDNY, DCFD, CFD are all dual service departments (Fire/EMS). Cities are having an extra tough time & recent events are making the job harder & busier. My hat is off to all the men & women of fire, medical & law enforcement everywhere. I avoid the word "hero" but these folks are as close as you get & they do it every shift. But such long adrenaline trips are for the young. LAFD works 24 hour shifts. Rico Gross is a Battalion chief. Single bugle is an engineer, two side by side is a captain, crossed bugles are a Battalion chief like Chief Gross, three crossed with one in the middle is a division chief. 4 and 5 are chief two and chief one.

Johnny it’s different here at LA city, Gross is a Captain 2 ( station commander) 2 bugles crossed, our chiefs are in gold, triple bugles crossed, our captain 1 have 2 bugles parallel , our engineers don’t wear bugles
@Eskey__4 жыл бұрын
CITY68 Copy that. I’m an FS wildland FF and we wear bugles the way I wrote. Did not know LA City was different. Thanks for the info.

It's probably 95+% EMS related calls. They may run more calls, but they don't run the most working fires.

Something needs to be done with the residents of Skid Row, Many years ago the City of L.A. had a drunk farm that gave a chance for drunks to sober up and once again be a productive member of the community. Not only that it saved many lives of people that sunk to the Skid Row life.

Drug overdoses are more common, Especially homeless people, So that’s why there so busy, They need to upgrade on gear, We have all Stryker stretches at our station, Ambulance in your own station makes you even more busy, We use our county ambulances, We don’t have our own like they do, Cali is nothing but drug and homeless people, Hawaii is getting like that as well!

Pretty sure we should have fewer fire trucks and replace them with more ems vehicle

All appuratus are ALS with atleast 1 paramedic plus three medics full time with one at night only

As Skyler said, get rid of the fire trucks and replace them with ambulances since that's where the calls are

@@bobw5024 that area still needs fire protection...
@bobw50243 жыл бұрын
@@maxhallman1036 Fire apparatus provides no benefit at a medical emergency and actually delays patient care and transport. An ambulance is the standard for transportation of patients, it comes with all the gear and staff necessary. For the small percentage of calls where assistance is needed, police or fire can be requested. Staffing engines for primary medical response is nothing more than unions trying to create more firefighter jobs. When an engine is on a medical call they are unavailable to respond to fire calls.
@maxhallman10363 жыл бұрын
@@bobw5024 you ever realize that maybe there isn't an ALS unit available and an engine with a paramedic is closer it will respond and also there's 4 people on engines which is useful especially in LA because many people are either combative, druged up or obese

You guys are doing a great job, but ya just need to let the drug call go unanswered, let them meet their maker, the call will cease. Let them do all the drugs they want.
