I bought one of these, the exact same car brand new back in 1974. My mother-in-laws boyfriend was a VW dealer. I really loved that car. I had an after factory eight track put in. I thought it was a great little car. Thanks for the memories. ❤

I have the same exact car. Just finish rebuilding the engine and transmission as well as updating the a c system which works amazing. I'm the second owner, my sister was the first, so the car's been in the family since 74.

The bubbling on the C pillar under the crescent vent, that’s rust from the inside out, caused by foam insulation (death foam), absorbing condensation and letting it sit against the inside of the sheet metal. I don’t know how likely it is for the crescent vents to leak water into the c pillars. This is something I’ve been trying to find more information about, but I’d imagine that leaking crescent vents would also cause the foam insulation to soak water. It’s a common and serious problem on those beetles with crescent vents.

For a US model, that's my understanding as well.

They were offered in German with 34 + 44 hp (1200/1500cc) as well, but not for USA export. You got some options we never had, like fuel injection and a catalytic converter f.e.

As a German I just LMAO for the AC, it was offered here by Volkswagen, but made 1/3 of the car's price nobody wanted to pay for.

Shift knob and wheels are incorrect for a Sun Bug
@GordonHill-wm8ub4 ай бұрын
WOW, just stumbled upon this video on KZbin. What a trip down memory lane. You are correct. I was thinking the same as I watched this video. I was 16 and my dad bought this car for me to drive to high school in 1976. (purchased used from the orig. owner who bought it new in '74). Mine was identical except for the wheels, which were a silver painted alloy wheel with a little black center cap and exposed lug nuts, and the shifter was knob was different. I remember washing the wheels and always skinning up my fingers and cuticles trying to get the cloth around each of the lug nuts to remove dirt. Mine even had the same dealer installed AC. We also removed the belt so that the AC would not bog down the little engine...not enough hp to run the AC well. That was a BIG sacrifice since I was in a suburb of Houston, TX where the temps are HOT! I loved driving that car and had Fleetwood Mac blaring on the stereo with some aftermarket speakers added in the doors and rear package shelf like every other 16 y.o. My blonde hair blowing in the wind with the sunroof open. Oh, the memories....now I'm a 64 y.o. bald boomer driving a S-class MB with Ac'd seats, and every kind of tech gadget available. I think the 15K service on my MB costs more than we paid for that little bug in '76!

It's been poorly finished by being painted black inside boot. That was never an original finish
