This may be true for you but not for everyone. Mother-child relationships are just as flawed, complex, and relative as every other, and aren’t inherently more true, or more soulful. Everybody is capable of betrayal, including mothers and children. Abusive mothers exist, children who want nothing to do with their mothers exist, people who have no interest in having children or simply aren’t close with their children, fathers who have closer relationships with their kids than the mothers do, lovers in healthy, complete relationships without children, biological mothers who give their child up for adoption, etc. Distant or complex relationships aren’t necessarily bad things, either- not everyone wants or needs a powerful mother-child relationship in their life. No individual experience is any less real just because it doesn’t apply to everyone.

How much wickedness women have had to bear for millennia. They were thought responsible for the sex of kids and blamed, repudiated, sometimes even executed (see Henry VIII th) if they didn't give birth to a male. OMG. Even the fierce Lagertha the shieldmaiden "had" to give Ragnar a son and, anyway, later he did whatever the hell he wanted with the other woman, showing 0 respect for Lagertha. I do hope men power is over.

If that’s the case you’re pretty lucky as well, the love ragnar and lagertha shared was different, something most wouldn’t experience in their lifetime. He did cheat on her but loved her more than any other. At least, if your life is exactly like hers, you had someone other than family love you that much.
