When did you go? I keep reading that the trail can get very crowded but you guys seem to be all alone.

We did this hike on September 4th so it wasn't peak season. I don't remember the time but it was early enough that we used our headlamps for about a half hour. One of the biggest factors that likely held off the crowds was the oncoming storm. A little after 1pm it started raining very hard and lasted all night. It also sprinkled off and on that morning causing the climb to be a bit more treacherous. There were two people at the lake when we got there but I'm pretty sure they stayed in the refugio. A couple small groups showed up before we left the lake and it seems like we ran into about 10 people climbing up as we went down. They very likely got caught up in the downpour.
