Lagoon (SNES) All Bosses + Ending. "Lagoon" is a Ys-like top-view action RPG for the X68000 and SNES developed by Zoom and published by Kemco in 1991. Almost all boss fights are very hard because your sword is too small and it's a very tricky to hit bosses with it. Boss list:

Attempted realism in this 2d overhead view? Unless you're swinging a sword more than half your own size it won't swing out as much as many games make it out to be. Still, this is extremely short range even so, didn't say the attempt was succesful, eh?

Basically, it's the result of changing Ys-style "bump with your sword out" combat with straight action-RPG combat. While not changing the size of your sword one iota.

No, this is the very poor man's Ys, the snes port was retooled to play like Zelda. Soemthing similar happened to the snes port of Xak: The Art of Visual Stage, the original played like Ys while the port was retooled to play as Zelda (it is also a way better port than Lagoon)

Got this game based on the cover art alone.Did not know that it was going to be one of the most difficult,rewarding and awesome sounding experience as a kid.I loved it but I remeber X-Play completely trashing the game.When you're a kid it's just that sense of wonder that carries you through something that people could and would pass up.Had this game when I was 8 and did not beat it until I was 11.The game made me quit a few times but it was always there beckoning me long after I was finished with Super Mario World,Mario Kart and Zelda.

funny how your memory changes. i remembered the rock monster being a brain back in the day. got slaughtered in every boss fight and had to grind for ages to get the character stronger. the feeling of elation when you killed each one......blessed snes rpg days.

I almost popped a vein beating this game....Probably wouldn't have gotten through it without an emulator because my strategy was just hacking and bumping into the bosses not before getting the level maxxed out. You did this like a pro.. It's actually quite funny how chill your were beating the final bosses....

The original game (on the X68000) had it so you could use your sword like a stabbing weapon and you could just thrust yourself into an enemy's path. Why they took that option out of the SNES version, I dont know.

@@scottythegreat1 They wanted to make it into a Zelda clone because they thought that's what the players would want (more active involvement in the combat). For kicks and giggles, I tried to play the X68000 version like the SNES version and the equip/unequip animation (which is the same as the sword swing in the SNES version) doesn't actually do anything to the enemies.

I was so offended by this game! I asked my mom to buy me secret of mana when I was a child and she got me this. Every time I got a new sword I was like “YAS!” And then it was the same short butter knife. The spells were really cool however, and I liked the atmosphere and music!

Wow, this is impressive. Even at max level the final bosses gauntlet is brutal, and you are well below max level here.

It's not really a brutal gauntlet, just annoying. You fight the shell and the gargoyles back to back, but you heal after that. You fight Zerrah and Thor back to back, but Zerrah is a chump. Thor turning into a bird is the only really scary part. After that your HP & MP is restored. If you know to use the healing ring effectively the enemy hits are mostly laughable. If your timing is good, you won't even lose any MP after the battle.

@@CurlyFromTheSwirly Yeah I recently replayed this game and your right about using the healing ring in timely fashion. The bird can still be obnoxious but I use a simple pattern for it. In this game its always easy to die quickly if your under leveled since there is no recovery time when you take damage and your sword is so tiny you have to be almost on top of enemies to hit them.

@@kyoku1982, exactly. The way the game is set up, I just jump on some enemies. Because the end somewhat of a gauntlet I have to be smart. Try to beat the gargoyle shell ASAP with full HP. That's pretty easy. The gargoyle may damage me, but you get HP & MP back after thr battle. Zerrah is a big loser. I can beat him faster than thr gargoyle. Thor is annoying. I'm sure there's a pattern to getting to him, but I have difficulty figuring it out. The bird is a nightmare. And so what I do is keep all my healing items saved. Between the lifeball and the healing ring I should be able to win. But this game is very random, so I don't always. Earlier today I lost 4 times and gave up for now. The evil spirit is another let down. It's just the gargoyle that can teleport. And I have both the healing ring and the elixir. The enemies are somewhat random. So as we see in this video. Some bosses were defeated really easily.

@@CurlyFromTheSwirly Yes Thor is insanely annoying but at least he doesn't do much damage. I just keep jumping at him from different angles until I get through somehow. For the bird I stay around the lower left corner and wait for him to come over that way before moving up, jumping over his projectiles and jumping into him while hacking away. Of course the healing ring is a must since you can still take rapid damage but I find it easier than chasing him around.

I'm not actually sure why you got so Lucky against Samson (1st boss). Usually he does not standstill like that. A helpful thing I found is to hide in the doorway in the back where he cant hit you...well, usually he can't. Your strategy against Nutella (2nd boss) was flawless. You seem to have his moves perfectly memorized. I'm not sure why you took the long hallway to get to Eardon (the rock floating rock momster), but your pretending to try to open the back door was funny. I never thought to run around the big hands of Duma. Seems that might work as good as forward. I can't believe you beat thimble the eyeball so easily. Those 6 shooters on the side usually mess me up bad. I'll have to study your technique. Of all the villains, Ella the weak witch is the one who hit you? That shows how random this is. (You seemed to have the most difficulty with her crazy teleporting.) You were even more nervous against Battler (7th boss). He is a bit tricky. Yet you were bold because you figured out the pattern of the floaters and knew they wouldn't hit you. You were way too hesitant against the sub-boss shell. I just keep jumping and he never hits me. With the gargoyle, you again had incredible luck, as he stood there long enough for you to get many hits. Slow but good again Zerrah. He's a chump and I usually am able to charge right at him and get a,flawless victory. I have no clue how you beat Thor so quickly. Were you using a ring? Was it luck that you were able to run in at him so quick, or was that spot planned, and that's why you choose that spot to finish Zerrah? Your strategy against the bird is too slow and why I will be disliking this video. I'm not what you are doing to lessen the damage (maybe a ring that I don't bother with). To me the acceptable method is hit & run. Use jump to lessen his immense amount of attacks. All the while keep a healing item ready (which you did). Another good thing to do is keep putting on the healing ring to get your HP back up. If you go on thr side to the lower left he won't be able to hit you.

Believe it or not, the original X68000 version of this game DID control a lot more like Ys, where you held a button to stick out your sword and bump into enemies to deal damage. Also, a lot of the bosses either looked a bit different (or at least animated a hell of a lot better) or fought differently - and the final boss gauntlet was WAY different than it is here. Ella's not in that version, either.
